Notes |
- I have conflicting info on this Nathan. It seems that Jonathan Case m. Alche Cronkhite was the son of John Cass and Hannah Gove, dau. of John Gove and Sarah ?. She was born 4/1/1691 in Hampton, NH. See the NY Genealogical and Biographical Record, July 2000 by William T. Ruddock.

Carl,
I am sorry it has taken so long to respond. I finally got around to looking over your notes on your Nathan who married a Hannah ?Rhodes?. I know nothing of your Nathan to be quite honest. Jonathan Case of Hoosick was the son of a different Nathan and Hannah. Nathan Cass was b. 1715 in Hampton, NH. His parents were John and Hannah (Gove) Cass. This Nathan's 1st wife was Hannah whose maiden name is unknown. He traveled as a boy to Mendon, MA with his parents. He then moved to Smithfield, RI after his marriage and after a few of his children were born. He then moved to the Nine Partners area of Dutchess Count. When he moved to Dutchess County he went by the CASE spelling of the name as did his children and grandchildren. He was a Quaker and his movements can be traced fairly well. This name change was quite interesting. I have Quaker minutes from Smithfield which refer to him as Cass minutes from the same time period from the Nine Partners Monthly Meeting where he is refered to as Case.
After Hannah died he went back to Smithfield, Rhode Island to marry his son's mother-in-law Huldah Gaskill. Nathan Case died abt 1801 in Columbia County where he left a will.
Nathan Cass/Case did have a son Nathan who lived and died in Nine Partners. One of Nathan's siblings, Jonathan Gove Cass named a son Nathan Cass b. 1767
but he married a Phila Southwick in Mendon, MA. Jonathan Gove Cass also had a grandson Nathan Cass b. 1801 but he supposedly married a Mary West.
That about sums up those by the name Nathan Cass that I know of.
I will point out a red herring. Nathan and Hannah Cass had a daughter Lucy who married abt 1792 Asa Rhodes and they lived in Smithfield!
