Notes |
- There is no doubt that in 1603 the Hallidays were in actual possession of Tullibole, but it is probable that Holbourne had lent money over it, and as a wadsetter styled himself " of Tullibole." John Halliday died 19th September 1606, and was buried in Inverkeithing churchyard, which goes to show that at that time there was no residential mansion on the estate. His tombstone is still visible, with a coat-of-arms consisting of a chevron between three cinquefoils, impaling the arms of his wife, three inescutcheons, the bearings of the family of Hay, she having been, according to some accounts, the daughter of Patrick Hay of Pitfour, and, according to others, of a Colonel Hay in the service of the States-General.
