- J. H. Scott, Professor of Dental Anatomy at the Queen's University, Belfast, and Consultant in Dental Anatomy to the Northern Ireland Hospitals' Authority, died at his home on 13 November 1970, soon after his 57th birthday. James Scott was born in Dundalk, County Louth, on 8 November 1913, the son of John and Nell Scott. He received his schooling at Methodist College, Belfast, and then went on to the Queen's University, Belfast, where he graduated successively in Science, Dentistry and Medicine. He qualified M.B., B.Ch., B.A.O. in 1942, and proceeded to M.D. in 1946 and D.Sc. in 1957. He was elected a founder Fellow of the Faculty of Dentistry of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 1963. Scott was appointed Lecturer in Dental Anatomy at the Queen's University, Belfast, in 1946, became a Reader in 1956 and was awarded a Personal Chair in 1964 because of his outstanding contributions to dental research and education.
