"Hello,
I found your profile on Ancestry and believe that you are related toAnna "Annie" Love Blair. She was the mother of my great aunt, EdnaGrant Fiosne. Edna was married to my great uncle, Hans Fiosne.
Edna and Hans did not have children. After my uncle passed at the ageof 92, Edna was taken care of by my parents, living with them untilher death in 1990.
My parents have since passed away and I am sorting through theirrecords. My mother saved pictures of Edna as a child/young woman, somenewspaper clippings and handwritten geneaology notes written by Edna.I believe these records
are important and would be more meaningful to a direct descendent ofthis family. Would you be interested in having these records. Pleaselet me know.
Sincerely, Susanna"

RESPONSE FROM SUSANNA BAKER OF FERNDALE, CALIFORNIA PER POSTAL MAILDATED JANUARY 5, 2009: "Dear Sandy, Here are the photos anddocumentation that I had about Edna Grant and her ancestors. I hopeit will be interesting to you, your daughter-in-law and her family.Although much of the information is about the Blair side of thefamily, I included what I had about the Grant side of the family too.Since they settled near the Moline area, I thought it would have moremeaning to you or that you might run across some member of that familywho may have an interest in this information. Many of the notes arehand written by Edna and are somewhat difficult to read. Edna was awonderful woman, very intelligent and enjoyed documenting parts of herlife. She was employed as a teacher, then a librarian for severalyears until she married Hans Fiosne, my great uncle, in 1938. theyspent the remainder of their years living in Moline, travelingextensively throughout the world and sailing on the Mississippi River(a favorite pastime of my Uncle's). Let me know if you have anyquestions. Sincerely, Susanna Baker, etc..."

SOURCE: Edna Grant Fiosne's (c.1898-1990 A.D.)HAND WRITTEN PERSONALNOTES ON THE BLAIR, LOVE, GRANT, AND MCWHINNEY FAMILIES. Contributedby, Susanna Baker of Ferndale, California on 12 January 2009. Ednacontributed information, photos, and some certificates of marriage toBessie Blair in abt. 1979. Edna's story of the families odyssey isthe same as told by Mary Gerrity and Bessie Blair, also all of theinformation in her notes is nearly identical.
1). "SCRIPTURE MEMORANDA - JAMES MCWHINNEY (my great grandfather) wasa carpenter. He married ELIZABETH CAMPBELL, who was said to be adescendant in the 7th generation from a Duke of Argyll. I do not knowwhether this is true or not. The McWhinney's came from County Down,Ireland, and the name is said to be a corruption of MacKenzie orMacKinney, and the family of Scotch extraction."
2). "Great Grandmother LOVE - As I remember the story, she & greatgrandfather Love had sold their home n goods in Ireland an bookedpassage for America. When he died suddenly, she went on with herchildren, Mary, Matilda, Nancy, James, Alexander as yet unborn. Ann &Jane had already gone to America, & I'm not sure whether Elizabeth(Eliza) & William had already gone or came with great grandmother. The voyage took 6 weeks. they lived on an island in the DelawareRiver at one time & then in Bucks Co., Pa. where Alex was born. Annbecame the proprietor of a lace shop on Chestnut Street, Philadelphiaselling laces, trimmings, buttons, etc. & later made her home withAlec (meaning Alex) Love family. I remember her silky short hair, unusual then, and I believe she left mother a small legacy. JANE: Ithink she married or widowed, but am not sure. I remember her asliving in an apartment in Chicago (9020 Cottage Grove Ln) with hersister Mary Gerrity, also a widow, and giving mother several bits ofjewelry including spin of twisted etched gold tubing (not valuable, but unusual, which had been given her by a seafaring friend (This musthave been about 1910). Also I believe she left mother 100- & me 50-,but I'm not sure. ELIZABETH (Eliza) my grandmother, they lived inMillville, N.J. She married WM. BLAIR (I had the marriage certificate& turned it over to Bessie Blair in 1979 or 80, so I don't recall thedate). she had a son John, then my mother, ANNIE LOVE BLAIR, born May14, 1966 n 67, and she died of "galloping consumption" when mother wasa toddler. WM. BLAIR thought he could keep John & care for him, butnot the baby too, so her grandmother took mother home with her &raised her. I don't know whether this was after grandmother had movedto Illinois or not, & I'm not sure when John Blair came to Ill,Mother had a 1st cousin John Blair, who ran a fish market inBellingham, Washington, & whom we visited once, I think in 1911. Hehad a daughter Winona, with whom I kept contact for awhile, but notfor many years now. Mother attended normal school & graduated inGeneseo. Her graduation picture is among those I turned over toBessie Blair. I think. She taught in country school - and rodehorseback to & from school (she stayed with cousin Emily & Charlot forawhile. And she lost her whole first month's salary when her purseflew open while she was riding her horse home, but they managed tocollect it all along the road--I don't remember how much she got that1st month tho. She married WALTER CLARK GRANT Oct. 1, 1896 & movedto his farm at Sunny Hill. She had a baby GIRL July 1897 who livedonly 3 days (a "blue baby") and I (EDNA) was born Dec. 1, 1899. JOHNBLAIR m. ELLA WILSON & their children were GEORGE & BESSIE. Georgemarried JESSIE COMBS & had 2 sons, RICHARD & GEORGE. Richard lived inIndiana, George in Moline - his wife is MARILYN & they have 5 or 6children."
3). "ITEMS - When Grandfather (Wm. Grant) married Jane McWhinney hewas a well-to-do widower who lived with his brother Dan Grant & EllaFerguson Grant. Etc... Grandmother was very poor and lived with hermother (Eliz. Campbell McWhinney) in a little shack cornerwise fromwhere Hanna's now live. they did washing, mending, serving, nursing, and other such means of earning an honest living. Grandmother "workedout" for a short time when she was old enough. She once worked forold Mr. Walker, who paid her 50 C(ents) a week & deducted a couple ofweeks wages for two teeth he had pulled for her when she was a child! She was considered a handsome girl, and lively. Tom Campbell and_____Morrison were also her admirers, but she married grandfather &was of course accused of marrying him for his money. They were happyuntil grandfather's sudden death of heart failure. Grandmother liveduntil April 23, 1913 (?) dying of cancer of the stomach at the home ofher youngest son, Albert in Ft. Worth, Texas. Both are buried inHomestead cemetery. Grandfather Grant came from Narin Scotland andduring his boyhood he tended sheep on the mountains. ...he came toAmerica ...Pittsburg for some years & was naturalized there. He did...gardening and even to the day of his death gardening was hisfavorite occupation. His first wife - ______Ferguson is buried inPittsburg. Grandfather was a silent, rather taciturn man. heoriginally spoke Gaelic, and I still have his Gaelic Bible, butgradually forgot the language. I gave the Gaelic Bible to Mary JaneFehr in 197? and also gave her some old pictures, & a garnet broochwhich grandmother Grant was wearing in one of the photos."[Transcribed 02 March 2009, SLJuhl RNBSC, Compiler & FamilyGenealogist; sljuhl1234@yahoo.com or 3810 - 10th Avenue Place, Moline,Illinois 61265]
