Macock, Peter. [Surname also spelled Meacock.]
He had land at Greenwich 1650, and a house in Fairfield 1653.
Mary Macock sold Fairfield property to John Applegate by 1662/3. We suppose that she was widow of Peter; and by 1664 she was the "pretended wife" of Thomas Case. There was evidently some illegality about her remarriage to Case, who was of Newtown, L. I.; and the Magistrates at Newtown were required by Gov. Nicolls, acting upon information received from the Council of Conn. Colony, to obtain security from Case to protect Mary and her children in property held under the will of her former husband. On 21 Apr. 1665, Gov. Nicolls declared Thomas Case and Mary Meacock free from the tie of wedlock.(*)
The surname was not common in New England, but occurs early in Southampton, L. I. Peter may have been bro. of Capt. Thomas Macock, who had a grant of land in Milford 1660 and rem. 1662 to Guilford, where he d. in 1707; m. Lettice [prob. Atred], stepdau. of Humphrey Spinning, who d. at Guilford, 5 Sept. 1715. The will of Thomas, 1 Nov. 1701, codicil 2 Feb. 1704, proved 28 May 1707; wife Lettice; kinsman Samuel Smithson of "Brafield near to Northampton in old England." No issue; Smithson came over and settled in Guilford.
