- Or Daugherty or O'dougherty
A great deal more research is required as yet to try and fathom thefamily dynamics. So, though there may be some dates and ideas, nothing is set in stone nor concrete. This compiler is open to newideas on the family and more than willing to share. You may contactme at: SLJuhl 3810 - 10th Avenue Place, Moline, Illinois 61265 or atgsjuhl@peoplepc.com or sljuhl1234@yahoo.com for further sharing ordiscussion at any time. And as it's said about all genealogyprojects, "They are never completely done".
NOTE: AFTER GOING THROUGH THE CEMETERY LISTINGS THAT ARE AVAILABLE FORBULLITT COUNTY, KENTUCKY ON THE USGENWEB SITE THESE BELOW ARE THE ONLYONES FOUND. THERE WERE NO DOUGHERTY NOR O'DOUGHERTY LISTED. Myconclusion then is that the family who stayed in this county must havekept the census name indicated of Daugherty instead of the family nameO'Dougherty, O'Doherty as indicated by the 1830 Census of EdwardO'Dougherty/Daugherty. In two previous census's, 1810 & 1820, Edwardand other family members, Thomas, William, and Charles were referredto as Daugherty. Unless of course, the family died off and many leftthe area, but this is probably unlikely since there were so manychildren listed in the census records in the early 1800's.
NOTE: It would also seem that the family was closely connected withthe Richter Family from Pennsylvania to Kentucky to Indiana.

NOTE: This is the same Edward Daugherty, and Nathaniel Richter wasborn in Pennsylvania as well. Whether or not there was a connectionsomewhere in Pennsylvania between the families is hard to say at thispoint and time. Edward did not show up in the census records or taxrecords in Kentucky until 1800. Both lived very near each other whenarriving in Bullitt County, Kentucky.

This group arethe only ones listed in the county-Daughtery and Richtor. There areno surnames of Dougherty or Rector. The original spelling of theRector family was Richter/Richtor. Even though Rachael spelled hername with an "o" (as my family claims) instead of an "a", I'm surethat the census takers wrote it down as it sounded with an "a".

Note: This is undoubtably the family, however there are two Daughertymales listed old enough to be Rachael's father either Thomas orWilliam Daugherty who are living near each other and no doubt arebrothers. Also there are two sons Charles & Edward, but unknown whichis their father as same with Rachael. We now have names of thefamily, but must sort out who belongs to whom. There is a strongpossiblity that Charles may be the son of William since they arelisted directly one under the other one on the census sheet.

I believe Charles Daugherty may be the son of William Daugherty, because they are listed together in the 1810 census one right afterthe other living next door to each other.

Note: In this census, Edward Daugherty is the onlyDaugherty/Dougherty living in Bullitt County, Kentucky and sinceRachael/Rachel married in 1829, it is most likely that EdwardDaugherty is her father then since he is the only one in the county inthe census by that surname. And later he is found in MontgomeryCounty, Indiana not too far away from Rachel Daughtery O'DohertyRichter. Also, Edward's family size suddenly nearly doubles withchildren, and some of the older children are the same age. I wouldventure to say that one of the heads of households, either Thomas orWilliam has died, and Edward has taken in the family. Could bothThomas and William have died between 1810-1820-Both?? More researchis needed.

NOTE: I could not find Edward O'Dougherty/Daugherty in the 1840Census any where in the United States. There is an Edward Daughertythat shows up later in the death records in Montgomery County,Indiana. Edward's daughter Rachael O'Dougherty/Daugherty Rector isliving in Fountain County, Indiana in a neighboring county at thattime. She is married to Thomas Nathaniel Richtor/Rector, a directancestor.
