- "Franklin Asbury Elkins, son of William H. and Margaret (Cavender)Elkins. Franklin was born August 26, 1855 (death cert.) in JacksonCounty, Indiana (probably near Cortland). He was with his family inthe 1860 census in Jackson Co., IN. In 1870, he was still with hisfamily only in Putman Co., IN. near the Waveland area. In the early1880's he must have returned to Jackson Co., IN.; There he marriedhis first wife, Mollie H. Robertson on September 20, 1882 (marriagerecord). They had four children: Howard Marshall Elkins, LeliaIsabelle Elkins, Ida Leoda Elkins, and Earl Elkins." per source,Joyce L. Elkins.

Franklin was born in Jackson Co. - was in the 1870 census of PutmanCo. so must have returned to marry in Jackson Co. where he must ofremained till after his first child, Howard, was born. His fourthchild Earl, was born in Montgomery County (Crawfordsville) Ind.Children by Mollie H. (Robertson):

3. Ida Leoda Elkins (1886 - 1939)
4. Earl Elkins (1889 - 1941)
"Franklin married his second wife in Parke County, Indiana (courthouse records), to Clara Mae Tyler (1875 - 1940) on October 01, 1896.Clara was the daughter of William and Nancy Ann (McCarty) Tyler.
They had four children:
1. Raymond Lee Elkins (1895 - 1961)
2. Samuel Clarence Elkins (1897 - 1967)(Joyce's father-in-law)
3. Harold Layton Elkins (1899 - 1944)
4. Nellie Louetta Elkins (1902 - 1957)

"OBITUARY OF FRANKLIN ELKINS: Rockville, Indiana Tribune Newspaper(microfilm) dated January 14, 1913 - news item of Annapolis, Indiana.Frank Elkins, who was a victim of paralysis for the past three years,died of Apoplexy, Thursday evening. He was taken to Russellville forburial, after funeral services conducted by Rev. Atcheson at the M.E.Church Saturday at 11: am. Rockville, Indiana Republican Newspaper(microfilm), Same as above from Tribune - Added: Relatives fromRussellville, Crawfordsville, Bloomingdale, and Mecca attendedfuneral." Burial: Lot # 67, no head stone, south of William andMartha Elkins, next to Benjamin Grimes and in front of Evans;Russellville Cemetery, Russellville, Putnam County, Indiana, with hissecond wife Clara.
