- Walter John Montagu Douglas Scott, 10th Duke of Queensberry was educated at Eton College, Eton, Berkshire, England and at Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England. He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Law (LL.D.) by University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland, in 1953 and the honorary degree of Doctor of Law (LL.D.) by St. Andrews University, St. Andrews, Fife, Scotland, in 1956.
He succeeded to the titles of 8th Baron Scott of Whitchester and Eskdale on 19 October 1935, 8th Earl of Doncaster, co. York on 19 October 1935, 8th Baron Scott of Tindall, Northumberland on 19 October 1935, 8th Duke of Buccleuch on 19 October 1935 10th Duke of Queensberry on 19 October 1935, 8th Earl of Dalkeith on 19 October 1935, 11th Earl of Buccleuch on 19 October 1935, 11th Baron Scott of Quhitchester and Eskdaill on 19 October 1935 and 12th Lord Scott of Buccleuch on 19 October 1935. He was decorated with the award of Territorial Decoration (T.D.).
He gained the rank of Captain in the service of the Grenadier Guards. He was commanding officer of the 4th battalion, King's Own Scottish Borderers between 1923 and 1930. He held the office of Captain General of the Royal Company of Archers.
He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Roxburghshire and Selkirk between 1923 and 1935. He was Aide-de-Camp to the Governor-General of Canada. He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of Roxburghshire in 1932.
He was invested as a Knight Grand Cross, Royal Victorian Order (G.C.V.O.) in 1935. He was invested as a Privy Counsellor (P.C.). He held the office of Lord Steward of the Household between 1937 and 1940. He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Dumfries-shire and Roxburghshire. He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Selkirkshire.
He was invested as a Knight, Order of the Thistle (K.T.) in 1949.
