- Donald James Mc Donald was born June 28, 1825, son of Dr.Randall McDonald (vol.1). He was brought by his parents to WareCounty in his boyhood, and lived there wntil his death April 7,1871. He was married thrice. The first marriage was toElizabeth, daughter of Abraham Hargaves (Vol.1) ; she was bornsept. 9, 1830, and died Pct. 17. 1850. She had no children. Thesecond marriage was in 1852 to Martha Mobley, daughter ofSolomon Mobley (Vol.1). She was born Feb. 11, 1836, in Tatnall,county, and died July 8, 1861. Three children were born by her.Mr. McDonald for many years before and during the war, owned alarge tract of land mear Glenmore station in Ware county, onwhich he had a large palntation farmed by about seventy-fiveslaves which he owned. But after the war due to loss of hisslaves and to economic conditions he quit farming and enteredthe mercanitile business in the village of Waycross which at thetime was called Tebeauville and which was beginning to give somepromise of becoming a railroad center, Death however cut shorthis business career when he died at the age of 46 years. Thedeath of his wife four years later, left his children without aparent and they were taken in charge by their father's father,and reared to maturity. Donald J. McDonald was 1st Lieutenantof the militia in the 45st district, 1849-1853, and also heldthe same rand in the "Wiregrall Minute- Men " , a volunteermilitia compamy raised in anticipation of war in Novemver, 1860, following Lincoln's election. He served as a Justice of WareInferior Court, 1865-1868. Mr. McDonald was a member of thekettle Creek Methodist Church, also a member of Wareboro Lodge,No. 217, F.& A.M.
