Near this Place rest the Remains of
Sir CHARLES BARROW, of Hygrove, in this Parish,
Baronet, LL.D. Recorder of Tewkesbury, and Representative
of the City of Gloucester in seven successive Parliaments.
As a Senator, he was a zealous Assertor of the
constitutional Rights and Interests of his Country. ?
As a Magistrate, thoroughly versed in the Municipal Laws;
and vigilant and active in the Execution of them. ?
As a Friend, warm in his Attachments, both Public and Private. ?
In social Intercourse, affable, engaging, courteous;
with a conciliating Address, happily suited to all Ranks and Conditions; by
which he acquired and retained a
Popularity with his Constituents, equalled by few,
and exceeded by none. He died on the
10th Day of January, 1789, in the 80th Year of his Age.
Charlotte Hopkinson, wife of Sir John Douglas, was his granddaughter.
He d. without issue Jan. 1789, when the title devolved, pursuant to the limitation, on
II. Sir THOMAS CRAWLEY-BOEVY (who was son of Thomas Crawley-Boevy, of Flaxley Abbey, co. Gloucester, and grandson of Thomas Crawley of the same place, esq., who took the name of Boevy, pursuant to the will of William Boevy, esq., under which he inherited the Flaxley estate).
