Lady Ellen Douglas appears to have been assisting in military hospitals in Gallipoli, and possibly elsewhere during the 1st World War. She was resident at Shanna Corttage, Blairs, Kincardineshire c1922
Ellen Lytcott Taylor was born 20 Jan 1866 at Brandons, Barbados and baptised 21 Mar 1867 in St Michael, Barbados. She was the daughter of Samuel Taylor and Mary Knight. Her father was a solicitor and clerk in the House of Assembly.
She married William Douglas, an officer in the Army, on 15 Dec 1885 at Charlcombe, Somerset, England. Ellen's father Samuel Taylor was described as Queens Solicitor.
In 1911, Ellen and her husband William were living at the Curragh Military Camp, Kildare, Ireland. Her husband William was a Brigadier General.
Lady Ellen Lytcott Douglas was awarded a medal for service during WW1.
She died in 1929. Her death notice in the Aberdeen Journal reads:
DOUGLAS. ? At Fowey, Cornwall on the 13th January, 1929, Lady Ellen Lytcott Douglas, widow of Major-General Sir William Douglas, K.C.M.G., C.B., D.S.O of the Royal Scots Regiment. Funeral on Friday, to Banchory-Devenick Churchyard, at 2pm. Friends kindly accept this intimation and invitation. She was buried at St Devenicks-on-the-Hill, Banchory Devenick, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.
