John H. Smith born Jan. 20, 1851 in Howard Co., IN came to Ripleytownship with his parents. John lived in Ripley Township for 80years. He was a teamster. The son of Joseph Smith and Mary L. Rush.John's grandparents were: Daniel Smith and Christina Stonebraker.John's siblings were: Harriet married John Switzer; Mary Catherinemarried Thomas M. Galey; Rachel married George Graham; Emma marriedSamuel Gilkey; Lista married Joel Lee Patton, # 2 Benjamin Galey; NonaJ. Married Noah Myers; James S. married Mary Susan Alfrey and Alicemarried Albert Michael.
John H. Smith married Cinderella Balser on Oct. 19, 1878. She wasborn Feb. 12, 1851 and lived most of her life in Alamo. Her parentswere George Balser and Mary Hamm.
John and Cindy had seven children: Maggie married John Fruits; theirchildren are: Lagora, Gladys who died young, Evelyn and Carol. Birdmarried Alonzo Fruits and had a son Charles. Grover. Carl married OlaWestfall and had four children: Charles W., Dorman, Robert and Donald. Mary married Charles M. Fruits. Katie married Joel Tucker and threechildren were born to them: Max, Imogene and Letha. Elsie died young.
