    Prebendary of Connor

    A descendant of Robert Douglas (qv), a Lieut in the army of King William III; was at the battle of the Boyne

    Appointed to Church in 1773 with a stipend of ?75 Irish of which 60l was in money, paid half yearly, and the balance held as the glebe (value 25l)

    He was on the County Antrim Flax Growers Bounty List in 1796

    Irwin Stuart was appointcd in 1773 to the living of (??.\\rdclinis) and was
    succeeded by Charles Douglas, a native of Clough, and great grandson of
    the original Scottish settler who accompanied William III. to Ireland.
    He was prebendary of Connor, 1781-1813, and remained in Derrykeighan (As Devrock was earlier known) until his death. Douglas is buried in the old churchyard, where the epitaph on his tombstone testifies to his fidelity to Derrykeighan. It reads:

    The Rev. Charles Douglas
    Died 30th Jane, 1833, at the advanced age of 90;
    for many years Prebendary of Connor,
    and which he resigned rather than leave the Parish,
    the curacy of which he served for upwards
    of 60 years.

    (Research):Research determined that Charles received a MA degree from the University of Glasgow in 1764. The University archivest informs ... that the only record they have is "Eldest son of James from the Parish of Clough, Co. Antrim" and they spell his name as Douglass. Hence his Father is James Douglas(s) and he had syblings. The Connor Diocese Succession List confirms this and uses the title of "Major" for his father. The same list indicates that he was married three times, including to a Miss Allen of Lisconnan, Co. Antrim.
    A son, William Traill Douglas, is indicated to be a LT, Royal Marine, died 20 June 1815, which sounds like Waterloo. However, nothing found in UK Military records.
