This Andrew Scott lived in the time of Queen Mary and received from his father the estates of Glendoich as life tenant, the estates to revert to the family on his death. He was also in possession of the lands of Kirkstyle, Perthshire. His great-grandson, Patrick Scott, who lived in the reign of James VI, sold Kirkstyle and purchased Langshaw in the south of Scotland, and afterwards acquired the estates of Ancrum. His son, Sir John Scott, obtained a charter under the Great Seal, in 1670, of the lands and Barony of Ancrum and was created a Baronet in 1671.

Ancrum is a village in the Scottish Borders , 4 miles north of Jedburgh .Ancrum sits in a loop in the Ale Water which is where the name derives from (crooked land on the Ale). The Ale joins the Teviot just to the south which in turn then flows past Monteviot House which is home of Lord Ancram.
