Catherine Minnick Long was about 35 years old when Bartholomew died and she married Philip Gruber after the death of Bartholomew.

Catherine and Phillip Gruber had a daughter who married Henry Smith.

It is possible that Catherine married a third time to a Cromer.

The Estate of Bartholomew Long shows that Catherine had trouble getting money from the Estate and had to petition the courts for money each year for support and schooling of the three sons. The Estate papers indicate that the sons were educated for $15.00 per year each. The sons were not deeded their father's land until about 10 years after his death. 150 acres on the North side of Camping Creek was deeded to the three sons of Bartholomew Long

Around 1750, three brothers came to the United States, at New York City. They came from Germany, twenty miles from the border line between Germany and Holland, near the Rhine River.

John Jacob Long was one of the three brothers. He was given a grant of one hundred (100) acres on Cannon's Creek in Newberry County in the year 1768.
He married Elizabeth Hair and lived in Newberry County.

John Jacob Long and Elizabeth Hair Long had three sons: Thomas, Bartholomew and Adam. The John Jacob home was near Macedonia Church in Newberry County and was described by both Mrs. Lula Mae Epting Dreher and Mr. Ben Shealy (Mr. Shealy lived to be over 100 years old) as being a log home with holes left in it so rifles could be fired at deer and other game and possibly to defend the home from intruders. The home overlooked the Saluda River and Camping Creek.
