"Margaret Ellen Pearson's grandfather, Thomas Pearson was born May1741 in England and died in Warren Co., IN. 1833. He served tours ofduty in the Revolutionary War and applied for his pension at the ageof 92 when he became unable to provide for his own needs. He servedwith General Thompson in Pennsylvania and was taken prisoner and heldfor almost a month. He escaped and returned to Philadelphia andreturned to his regiment.
The second time he enlisted in 1777 in Capt. Howard's Regiment and wasin the battles of Brandywine, Princetown and was with GeneralWashington at Valley Forge.
His third service in the fall of 1799 in Rockingham Co., VA where heserved with Capt. Woodson for 18 months at Petersburgh, Charleston.After Charleston he was sent home to Virginia and later moved hisfamily to Stones River, TN. They moved in the ealy 1830's to Indianawhere he was a farmer."

"NANCY RECTOR, was born about 1830 in Bullitt County and was almostgrown when she went with her parents to Fountain county, Indiana. Itwas there that she was married to William Henry Pearson on May 01,1849. He had been born about 1821 in Tennessee and was a son of JohnW. and Polly (Booth) Pearson. William and Nancy died near CatesStation, Indiana with in a few days of each other. He died March4/April 30, 1880 and Nancy died on April 11, 1880. They were buriedin the Harveysburg Cemetery a few miles north of the village ofKingman. They had fourteen children, nine of whom lived to maturity.They were: John Wesley, Margaret Ann, Thomas Nathaniel, JamesWilliam, Daniel Jefferson, George R., Francis Marion, Charles H.,Benjamin, Joshua, David, Andrew, Samantha May and Lewis E.

He was married to Rachael Dougherty on September 24, 1829, in Bullitt County, Kentucky.By James Simmons. She was born about 1807 in Kentucky and was a daughter of Edward O. Dougherty. Thomas and Rachael were enumeratedon the 1830 and 1840 Bullitt County census. About 1845 they moved toIndiana where they settled in Fulton Township. In SouthwesternFountain County when the 1850 census was taken there, they had sixchildren in their household, and Thomas's father.

Daughters, Nancy and Lavina, had been married in 1849, so they do notappear on census in this household.
Descendants say three more children were born to Thomas and Rachael inthe early 1850's and mid 1840's. Twelve children total.
Thomas died apparently sometime before 1870, possibly Fountain County,Indiana. As Rachael then made her home with her daughter, Nancy(Rector) Pearson and son, William Henry Rector, both of FountainCounty. She died after the 1870 census was taken in Fountain County,and have no record of there deaths or place of burial.

THOMAS NATHANIEL RECTOR, son of Nathaniel and Elizabeth (Sparks)Rector, was born about 1809. he was a farmer. He was married toRachel Dougherty on September 24, 1829, in Bullitt County by JamesSimmons. She had been born about 1807 in Kentucky and was a daughterof Edward O. Dougherty. Thomas and Rachel were enumerated on the 1830and 1840 censuses of Bullitt County, but in 1845 they moved to Indianawhere they settled in Fulton Township in South-west Fountain County,Indiana. When the 1850 census was taken there, they had six childrenliving with them. (Daughters Nancy and Lavinia had been married theprevious year. Also living in the household was Thomas's father,Nathaniel Rector, 88 years of age.
Descendants say that there were 4 more children born to Thomas andRachel in the early 1840-1850's, making a total of 12 children born tothem. Thomas apparently died sometime before 1870 and Rachel thenmade her home with her son, William Henry Rector and her daughter,Nancy (Rector) Pearson. They are theonly ones listed in the county-Daughtery and Richtor. There are nosurnames of Dougherty or O'Doherty or Rector. The original spellingof the Rector family was Richter/Richtor. Even though Rachaelspelled her name with an "o" (as my family claims) instead of an "a",I'm sure that the census takers wrote it down as it sounded with an"a".

Note: This is undoubtably the family, however there are two Daughertymales listed old enough to be Rachel's father either Thomas or WilliamDaugherty who are living near each other and no doubt are brothers orfather-son. William is listed in the tax roles in Frederick,Virginia, but there is no Thomas listed. So, William may be theoldest. Also there are two sons Charles & Edward, but unknown whichis their father as same with Rachael. We now have names of thefamily, but must sort out who belongs to whom.
