    Sandra,
1805 (year of death) William Wright of Fauquier County, Virginia,
(place of death) was not the son of 1792 John Wright of
Fauquier County, Virginia, and Elizabeth (Bronaugh) (Darnall) Wright.
    He was too young.
1805 William Wright of Fauquier County was born on Nov 1, 1740, atYork
County, Virginia. This is set forth in a family
record written by his son 1834 William Wright of Coshocton County,
Ohio, between 1830 and 1834. A copy of that family
record was attached to DAR Application #696077 for Eloise Maynard and
was referred to in Ann Ritchie's book Major
Francis Wright And Ann Washington With Allied Families as a Bible
record. That family record also stated that 1805
William Wright married Elizabeth Lloyd on Dec 25, 1768, and died Aug
29, 1806, in Fauquier County, Virginia. The year of
death is probably 1805, since probate of 1805 William Wright's willwas
on April 28, 1806, at Fauquier County, Virginia,
W.B. 4/203. That will named a son William Wright.
On Aug 26, 1751, by Prince William County, Virginia, Deed M/169 1792
John Wright of Fauquier County gave 185 acres
of land to his son William Wright and the land was described as "Land
which he [William] now lives on." 1805 William
Wright of Fauquier County was only 11 years old in 1751 and, therefore,
could not be living on his own land. The
consequence of this deed is that 1805 William Wright of FauquierCounty
could not be the son of 1792 John Wright of
Fauquier County. Deed M/169 also had on it a notation "Deed dld. Mr.Wm
Wright & wife ye 20th May 1762." On about
Aug 26, 1762, by Fauquier County, Virginia, Deed 1/369 William Wright
and his wife Mary sold 125 acres of the land
gifted to him by his father John Wright. On Oct 13, 1762, by Fauquier
County, Virginia, Deed 1/433 William Wright and
Mary Wright sold the remaining 60 acres of land gifted to him by his
father John Wright. David and Betty Williams joined in
the deed to clear title. These deeds make clear that William Wright,
the son of 1792 John Wright of Fauquier County, was
married to Mary (_____) Wright and sold his land in Fauquier County in
    1762.
The identity of William's wife Mary is obtained in King George County,
Virginia, Deed 1743-1752/442 dated September 4,
1751, by which William Wright "of the Parish of Hamilton in the County
of Prince Wm" and his wife Mary sold one share of
"Land Given and Devised by the last Will and Testament of WilliamGrant
the Elder deced. to his son William Grant the
Younger (who was Father of the said Mary Wright party to these
presents}." The reference to William Wright being of
Hamilton Parish identifies him as the son of 1792 John Wright of
Fauquier County who resided in Hamilton Parish, Prince
William County, which became part of Fauquier County on its formation
in 1758. The reference to William Grant the
younger as the father of Mary Wright clearly identifies William
Wright's wife as Mary (Grant) Wright. If William Wright, the
son of 1792 John Wright of Fauquier County, was married to Mary(Grant)
Wright in 1751, then he could not be the same
person as 1805 William Wright of Fauqier County, because 1805 William
Wright was only 11 years old in 1751.
Charles Hoppin first identified 1805 William Wright of Fauquier County
as the son of 1792 John Wright of Fauquier County
in his 1919 article published in Tyler's Quarterly and again in 1932in
The Washington Ancestry. In neither work did Hoppin
give any documentation for the identification of 1805 William Wrightas
the son of 1792 John Wright. Hoppin simply
assumed that 1805 William Wright was the same person as the William
Wright named in 1792 John Wright's will because of
his presence in Fauquier County. Hoppin was apparently unaware of the
family record quoted above or he would have
realized 1805 William Wright of Fauquier County was too young to bethe
son of 1792 John Wright of Fauquier County.
1805 William Wright of Fauquier County first acquired land in Fauquier
County on Sep 5, 1780, by Fauquier County,
Virginia, Deed 7/300, well after 1762 when 1792 John Wright's son
William and his wife Mary had sold their land.
I have collected a substantial amount of circumstantial evidence
identifying 1809 William Wright of Franklin County, Virginia,
who had a wife Mary as the son of 1792 John Wright of Fauquier County
and Elizabeth (Bronaugh) (Darnall) Wright and I
would be happy to share that with you and other interested researchers
Robert N. Grant, 15 Campo Bello Court, Menlo Park, CA 94025"
