10. | Thomas Edgar Douglas was born on 10 Sep 1887 in Albany, Western Australia, Australia (son of William Douglas and Emma Matilda Barratt); died on 21 Feb 1971 in Armadale, Western Australia, Australia. Notes:
Variously employed as an orchardist and miller on the Kalgan River near
Albany (had a sawmill with his brother Percy), orchardist at Bedfordale from
the late 20s, and a carpenter on the construction of the Canning Dam in the
30s, where he lost an eye to a splinter of wood.
An avid supporter of
Labor in WA, he died the night of the historic win by the Tonkin led Labor Party of the
February 1971 Western Australian State election. His last words to Irene
before he retired that evening were "They've finally won, Mother".
Thomas married Irene Hilda Champion on 2 Jun 1915 in Armadale, Western Australia, Australia. Irene (daughter of Joseph Henry Champion and Annie Matilda Callow) was born on 18 Dec 1886 in Ballarat, Victoria, Australia; died on 22 Jul 1984 in Armadale, Western Australia, Australia; was buried in Karrakatta, Western Australia. Came to Western Australia in about 1908, with her father's family, when he
went to help his sister Mary Rogers (Champion) whose husband, the Rev. James
had left her destitute in Albany when he ran off to America with the housekeeper.
Remembered for, amongst other things,her wonderful cooking, especially her
"flat buns".
Survived all of her siblings.
