During her attendance at "l'Avenie College which was conducted by her
grandaunts, the Pignolet sisters, Val was taught by Professor Guerin. Two of
her elder cousins, linda and Emma Collard who were also students were required
to teach some of the younger children. Val had a particular affection for her
grandaunt, Nele Pignolet (1857 - 1935) who was known as Tante Nelie. The
latter frequently arranged prayer meetings for some of the children in her
bedroom, while others stayed outside to play. Over a period of many years, Val
enjopyed a close friendship with her spinster cousin Nellie Collard who was
affectionatley known as "Little Nel" to distinguish her from Tante Nellie.
Following her husband Cameron's Death in 1976, Val ytravelled to Melbourne
several times where she stayed at a motel close to Nelie's flat. Nelie loved
her food and the pair frequently visited restaurants for lunch. An
establishment known as "The Green Room" was one of their favourites. She
travelled 8 times to England, meeting Cliff in Cornwall during her third trip,
    in July 1982

Generation: 3

  1. 6.  Pierre Hubert Gerard Collard was born on 20 Feb 1866 in Trois Ilots Flacq Mauritius; died on 24 Nov 1923 in Toorak Victoria.

    Notes:

"It is not known why Gerard and Martha delayed their marriage until 1905,
despite having five children between 1896 and 1904. Gerad came from aCatholic
background, whereas Martha was an Anglican, so quite possibly the clergy of
neither church were prepared to marry them. This would explain why they wher
eventually married by a Congregational minister, which church took a more
    liberal attitude to mixed marriages.

Pierre married Martha "Mattie" Quin on 23 Aug 1905 in 101 Gore St Fitzroy Victoria. Martha was born on 25 Jun 1872 in Sandhurst (Bendigo) Victoria; died on 12 May 1948 in Lucknow Hosp, Claremont Western Australia. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 7.  Martha "Mattie" Quin was born on 25 Jun 1872 in Sandhurst (Bendigo) Victoria; died on 12 May 1948 in Lucknow Hosp, Claremont Western Australia.

    Notes:

Information Source: Collard - A Genalogy etc, Peter Collard.
Although her birth was not registered, for the purposes of he marriage
registration, Martha stated that she was born in Bendigo (formerly known as
Sandhurst). This seems highly likely as her parents and siblings were living
in that area at around the time of her birth. Martha was probably named after
her aunt, i.e. her mothers younger sister Martha Hooper (nee Goodman).
Martha and Gerad and their family lived at La Malmaison, their home in
Mayfield St East St Kilda and later at 118 Williams Rd Toorak.
After settling the affairs of her husband folowing his death in 1923, Martha
and some of her children moved to Perth. Two sisters, Mabel and Clara, also
lived in Perth. Apart from the occasional visit, Martha never returned to live
    in Victoria.
