Generation: 4

  1. 12.  Amos Lane was born in 1804 in Vermont; died in 1851.

    Notes:

Found in 1850 census in Chautaugua County, New York. At that time he was 46 years old and Lucy was 40 years old. They had seven children. ?The eldest, who was 19 at that time, was named Augustus Lane. This may also be what the A. Lane stood for. Also the second son, Harry Cuyler Lane, and also William Cuyler Lane. The Cuyler may be Lucy's Maiden name. The obituary story from the Oshkosh newspaper indicates they appeared in Oshkosh early in the 1850's, but there is no mention of A. Lane coming to Oshkosh.
A search for the early Lane family members, recently found an Amos Lane in Westchester County, New York. He appears on the 1790 census of this county in the city of Yorktown. Because of the dates it appears he possibly may be the father of our Amos. There is some information the Lanes were from Long Island. There also is some information they were in Rensselear County, not far from Long Island. ?Also the Ebenezer Lane seemed to have roots in Long Island.
Also an Aaron Sanders was found in Westchester County, Which is the name of Lucy Sanders father.

Amos + Lucy [Sanders] Lane. Lucy (daughter of Aaron Sanders) was born in 1810 in Bakersfield, Vermont; died on 17 Mar 1895 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
