Generation: 1

  1. 1.  Jerusha Edgerton was born about 1808 in West Granby, Hartford Co., CT (daughter of Jacob Edgerton and Nancy Lee); died on 24 May 1830.

Generation: 2

  1. 2.  Jacob Edgerton was born in 1765 in West Granby, Hartford Co., CT (son of Ebenezer Edgerton and Desire Granger); died on 15 Nov 1828 in West Granby, Hartford Co., CT; was buried in West Granby Cemetery, West Granby, CT.

    Notes:

From the Richard Edgerton web site :

Jacob was a member of the First Congregational Church of Granby.

The marriages of Jacob?s daughters, Nancy and Charlotte, (both in 1823) were also recorded at the Granby Church.

Jacob Edgerton died of ?mortification? on November 15, 1828, ?aged 63 years?. He was buried in the West Granby Cemetery, where many of his children and descendants are also buried. Jacob?s death was recorded in the Granby Congregational Church records under the date, ?November 1828?. (ChR 2:150) His death was entered in the register of the ?West Granby Burying-Ground? (pg. 8, no. 149), as follows:

    ?[1828]?Nov. 16?Jacob Edgerton?mortification?[age] 63?[lot] 34?

Jacob Edgerton did not leave a will. His estate was administered by Bethiel Beman, Lorin Humphreys and Samuel Weed, who filed a distribution of the estate on October 16, 1829. The distribution mentions wife, Nancy, and thirteen ?children of the deceased?: Alanson, Willis, Caleb, Jerusha, Maria, Angeline, Margaret, Josephus, Judd, Lester, Jefferson, Nancy and Charlotte. Curiously, the second name is smudged out on its every occurrence throughout the deed. (It appears to be ?Wyllys? or something to that effect ? hard to tell.) One of the elder sons, Lee, was not included in the distribution. He had probably received lands of his father prior to Jacob?s death; and in a quit-claim deed dated December 4, 1828, ?Daniel Lee Edgerton? released his claim on the estate for consideration of five hundred dollars received from the other heirs.

Mrs. Nancy (Lee) Edgerton survived her husband a dozen years. She died in West Granby on September 18, 1840. She was buried at the West Granby Cemetery, on the same lot as her husband Jacob. Her death was entered in the register of the ?West Granby Burying-Ground? (pg. 13, no. 262), as follows:

    ?[1840]?Sep 18?Nancy widow of Jacob Edgerton?[age] 69?[lot] 34?

On May 19th of the following year, a distribution was filed with the Probate Court, dividing her dower among the heirs of her husband, Jacob?s estate. By this time, a number of her children had predeceased her, and their rights in the dower were assigned to various relatives. The total value of the dower was recorded as $931.54, each of the heirs (or their ?assignees?) receiving an equal share of $71.66. A transcript of the distribution is attached.
