By Rachel Lane Greatgranddaughter of Fern, written and read at her funeral.
The time has come to let you go.
It's time for sorrow filled hearts
now to grow.
You leave us here with hearts that have tares.
You leave us here with memories to share.
You are up in heaven with the Lord,
As out of our eyes, tears are poured.
You were so much in our hearts,
And now it's time for us to part.

8. | Alton Ray Lane was born on 23 Jun 1876 (son of Augustus Cory Lane and Elizabeth [Fairbanks] Lane); died in 1965 in Winnebago, Minnesota. Notes:
From a Newpaper Article"Sons of the Pioneers" [Continued from Augustus Cory Lane]
Not many of us remember the circuit riders who traveled the country and stopped at homes of schoolhouses to hold their services. Alton Lane remembers Charles Chase, a Methodist circuit rider who came each Sunday to preach in the Verona School District 33. Mr. Chase conducted services in other schoolhouses , the Salem [near Myron Mineer home], in Center Creek and at the Parker Brothers District in Martin county. Each Sunday, this minister rode a pony from one place to another, to hold these meetings. He also made his home wherever he stopped. Later Mr. Chase married a girl from Center Creek. Perhaps Alton Lane was lucky to be one of the younger members of his family for he could attend school all during the school year. Older brothers would have to help with the crops.
To use Mr. Lane's own words, "I had two of the best teachers in the county, Miss Lydia Bassett and Mrs. Alex Nesmith."
Alton Lane married Glee Wise, a girl who lived on a farm near by. After farming for 25 years in Verona township, they moved to Huntley where Mr. Lane was a stock buyer for over 30 years. The last few years he has spent in retirement. Tis fall Mr. and Mrs. Lane will celebrate their 62nd wedding anniversary. Down through the years, Alton Lane has been very interested in music and sports. for a number of years he directed the choir in the Huntley church where he also has served as Sunday school superintendent.
He always enjoyed singing with a quartet. During the flu epidemic of 1918, when other members of the quartet were ill, Alton Lane was soloist 10 times in the course of two weeks. Not until two years later did he have the flu.
Mr. Lane can tell local chaps quite a good deal about baseball, one of his favorite sports. He not only played baseball, but he knew the famous "Clippers" of this community.
Alton married Glee Pearl [Wise] Lane on 20 Aug 1894 in Blue Earth. Glee (daughter of Alexander Phylanzo Wise and Anna Viola [Winn] Wise) was born on 14 Sep 1878; died in 1963 in Huntley, Minnesota. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
