Left Scotland with parents and three brothers in 1851 to join brother John who immigrated to Canada in 1842 settling in Northumberland County, near Warkworth, Ontario.
The year of William's birth, 1836, was confirmed from records found at the Chatham Library in 2001. This differs from the date of 1838 in "1976 Douglas Family Tree". If the mother's birth date of 1778 is correctly documented in the "1976 Douglas Family Tree" and in Chatham's Commemorative Biograpphical Record, she was 58 years old when she gave birth to William!
William graduated in law from the University of Toronto in 1861. became a lawyer and moved to Chatham Ontario to become Crown Attorney (King's Council) for Kent County.
1885 Chatham Directory indicated he lived at 19 Murray Street near William.
1868 appointed as County Crown Attourney until his death in 1902.
