Whilst there wasindeed a Macbeth who was Mormaer of Moray (which contained Glamis andCawdor), was probably responsible for the murder of King Duncan, and thenruled Scotland (from 1040 to 1057), the title 'Thane of Cawdor' probablydid not exist prior to the 13th century.
