Her father sometimes shown as William (Sir) (of Dirleton Castle)Haliburton
    However
    From Doug Hickling

"I can supply the correct first name of the father of Jean Haliburton who
married Henry (1st Earl of Orkney) Sinclair. SP4:333 shows that Jean wasthe
daughter of John, nephew of Walter (Sir) Haliburton and Dirleton, son ofSir
Adam Haliburton who died in 1337. However, there is a correction inSP9:102,
which says that John was the son, not the nephew of Walter (Sir) and thatJean,
who married Henry St Clair, who was listed as John's daughter was placeda
generation too low and was, in fact, the daughter of Walter (Sir). Asevidence
supporting the correction, the compilers cite a 1388 charter which styled
Henry St Clair, Earl of Orkney, as the brother of John (Sir) Haliburton.

Walter married Isabel (of Albany) Stewart between Feb 1402 and Aug 1407. Isabel (daughter of Robert (Earl of Fife & Duke of Albany) Stewart and Margaret (Countess of Menteith) Graham) was born about 1363 in Maybe 1280; and died. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Notes:

" the twice married Isabella Stewart of Albany in a discharge dated
10 December 1443 was styled "Dame Elizabeth Haliburton, countess of
Ross," taking the rank of her first husband, Alexander Lesley, Earl of
Ross, and the surname of her second husband, Sir Walter Haliburton of
    Dirleton-"
The above is in a discussion about the identity of the wife of AlexanderMacdonald 10th Earl Ross & Lord of Isles, in the fall 2003 issue of THE
GENEALOGIST, in an article by Andrew B. W. MacEwen, beginning at
222, on Cristina de Brus, Countess of Dunbar. At page 225, the author,
as an illustration of the difficulty in sometimes determining a woman's
    maiden name.

However "note of a discharge" mentioning "Dame Elizabeth Haliburton, countess of Ross, is dated 40 years after Isabel (of Albany) Stewartfirst husband's death and close to that after her second marriage. Witha birth date of Abt. 1363 that would make her about 80 at the time of thedischarge, if it does indeed refer to her. It also seems a bit unlikelythat Isabel (of Albany) Stewart was about 35 at the time of her firstmarriage. So perhaps the birth date of Abt. 1363 is mistaken andsomething more like 1380 would be more accurate, unless other documentscontradict that.

    Children:
    1. Christina (of Dirleton) Halyburton and died.
    2. 6. Sir Walter (of Dirleton Castle) Halyburton was born about 1380; died before 5 Oct 1447.

  7. 14.  Archibald (The Grim, 3rd Earl of Douglas) Douglas was born about 1346 (son of Sir James "The Good" Douglas, Lord Of Douglas and Unknown); died on 24 Dec 1400.

    Notes:

Archibald Douglas, Earl of Douglas and Wigtown, Lord of Galloway, Douglas and Bothwell, called Archibald the Grim or Black Archibald, was a late medieval Scottish nobleman. Archibald was the bastard son of Sir James "the Black" Douglas, Robert I's trusted lieutenant, and an unknown mother. A first cousin of William 1st Earl of Douglas, he inherited the earldom of Douglas and its entailed estates as the third earl following the death without legitimate issue of James 2nd Earl of Douglas at the Battle of Otterburn.

He may, or may not, have had the same mother as William.

Archibald married Joan\Johana (of Strathearn) Moray in 1362. Joan\Johana (daughter of Sir Maurice (9th Earl of Strathearn) Moray and Joanna Menteith) was born about 1350; died in Aug 1409 in Threave Castle, Galloway; was buried in Aug 1429. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
