    Notes:

Email June 2003 from Iain Beverley McIntyre Frew

As you know Edith?s father was Walter Beverley, he was born 15 Dec 1854at 188 Kirkgate, Wakefield, Yorkshire, England. Her mother was Julia (neeYearsley) who married Walter on 12 Feb 1879 at St Peter?s church,Brighton, Sussex, England. Julia was christened at the Chapel Royal,Brighton on 29 July 1857 and her birthday, which I don?t have, must beassumed to be very close to this. Edith had an elder brother Frank born27 Aug 1880. Edith was probably born sometime in the first quarter of1882 but this is not yet proven. At the 1901 census they were all livingat Ebenezer House, Ebenezer Place, Bramley Leeds. This household wassupported by a cook and two housemaids. Walter Beverley had asister-in-law, Emily Beverley (nee Ramsden) married to James Beverley, mymaternal great grandfather. Emily?s will is dated Dec 20, 1923 andmentions her nephew Frank and Henry McLaren as executors. Henry?sparticulars are entered as "Engineer of Rossfield, Bramley, Leeds,Yorkshire. I don?t know if I ever met Edith or her husband but knew herbrother Frank well and include his entry in "Who was who?" below as hewas a rather colourful character:

"Barrister-at-law. North-Eastern circuit, Recorder of Bradford (1926-55).Oldest son of the late Walter Beverley, Barrister-at-law, Bramley, Leeds.Born: 27 Aug 1880. Married 1934, Lucy, daughter of the late NormanMcDougall of Winnipeg and widow of Allen J Kerr, Quebec. Educated atShrewsbury and London University (LLB). Called to the Bar 1908; served inthe European War 1914-18. Captain RGA (Royal Garrison Artillery) France,Flanders, Italy (MC, Italian Croces di Guera). Recreations: fly-fishing,motoring and empire travel. Address: Low Hall, Travers Farm Road, StBrelade, Jersey, Channel Islands. Died: 16 January 1972."
