    Notes:

Burley G. Douglas was born Burleough G. Douglas, however he went by the name of Burley his entire life. He was raised by his grandparents, James T. and Celia Douglas after his mothers death when he was only five months old. This brought about a confrontational situation between the Douglases and the Morgans, parents of his mother Helen Morgan Douglas. This situation apparently still exist today.

Burley sold insurance for many years in Jeffersonville and New Albany Indiana and he retired as a district manger of the Georgia Life Insurance company

    Birth:
Three months after his birth, his mother was killed by lighting and he was raised by his grandparents, Celia and James T. Douglas. It is not known why his father, George W. Douglas who remarried, did not raise him with his second family.

    Died:
He died of a heart attack after an illness of four years at 9:30 PM at his home, pronounced dead at Broward General Hospital.

Burley married Ada Belle Herald on 21 Dec 1909 in Warren Co., Kentucky. Ada was born on 25 May 1893 in Richardsville, Warren Co., Kentucky; died on 25 Mar 1974 in Mt. Vernon Nursing Home, Ft. Generation: 4

  1. 8.  George Washington Douglas was born on 5 Dec 1870 in Riverside, Warren Co., Kentucky (son of James Thomas Douglas and Celia Franses Milam); died on 9 Apr 1915 in Riverside, Warren Co., Kentucky; was buried on 10 Apr 1915 in Riverside Church Cemetery, Warren Co., Kentucky.

    Notes:

George Douglas was known as "Big George Douglas". He was a giant of a man for his time, standing about 6'10" tall and weighing around 280 pounds. It is not known at this time why he did not raise his son from his first marriage with Helen Morgan he remarried and raised a second family of nine children and paid little attention to his only child by his first marriage, Burley Greely.

One possibility is that his parents James T. and Celia decided to raise Burley, which they did.
According to Burley's son William B. Douglas, there was a terrible row between the Morgan and Douglas families over who would get the child as he was only three months old when his mother was killed. Apparently at least some of the hard feelings still exist. Mary Elizabeth, another one of Burley's children has confirmed most of this but only family lore can confirm the death of her grandmother as apparently there are no records in Warren county to confirm her death.

    Died:
Cause of Death was a heart attack according to his death certificate. This was unusual as he was the only male Douglas to die of a heart attack, and at such an early age, in the current medical history of this line.

George married Helen M Morgan on 4 Feb 1891 in Riverside, Warren Co., Kentucky. Helen was born on 9 Feb 1871 in Riverside, Warren Co., Kentucky; died on 5 May 1892 in Riverside, Warren Co., Kentucky; was buried on 7 May 1892 in Riverside Cemetery, Warren Co., Kentucky. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 9.  Helen M Morgan was born on 9 Feb 1871 in Riverside, Warren Co., Kentucky; died on 5 May 1892 in Riverside, Warren Co., Kentucky; was buried on 7 May 1892 in Riverside Cemetery, Warren Co., Kentucky.

    Notes:

Family lore says that Helen Morgan was struck by lighting and killed near her home. To date there are no newspaper or other records available to confirm that she was killed by lighting, only what was passed down through the family At any rate her son, Burley, was only three months old when she died.

This line is directly traceable to the Emperor Charlemagne through the noted Carter family of Virginia.

    Died:
Helen Douglas was killed by lighting there is apparently no record of this accident but was passed down through family lore

    Notes:

    Married:
The Marriage Bond was issued on 30 Jan 1891 in Warren County. George and Helen were married by Mr. C.H . Lewis J. P. Warren County.

    Children:
