His son James, and grandson Vance assisted him in the operation of the mill. for five years John enjoyed the pleassures of liffe as a poineer in texas. He met the hardships which came to him in those days with a determination becoming a man of his calibre. He died in or near Nacogdockes, Texas in 1841, with the knowledge of having raised a family of credible citizens.
