Generation: 1

  1. 1.  Beatrice (of Morton) Douglas was born in Morton, Dumfriesshire, Scotland (daughter of James (3rd Earl of Morton) Douglas and Princess Catherine Stewart); died about 31 Oct 1583.

    Notes:

Stirnet shows Beatrix (Beatrice) as wife of 6th Lord Maxwell, and thier first son, Robert, as the 7th Lord. This in turn is questionable as he apparently died young, so would not have inherited the title.

Their second son, John, is shown as the 8th Lord. It was he who inherited the title Earl of Morton following the execution of James Douglas, 4th Earl of Morton, Regent of Scotland. However, the title was later revoked when the earldom was restored to the Douglas family.

Beatrice married Robert 5th Lord Maxwell after 25 Jul 1530. Robert (son of Robert (of Carlaverock) 4th Lord Maxwell and Agnes (Countess of Bothwell) Stewart) was born about 1475; died on 13 Sep 1552. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
