  1. 4.  William (7th Earl of Morton) Douglas was born in 1582 (son of Robert (Master of Morton) Douglas and Jean (of Glamis) Lyon); died on 7 Aug 1648 in Orkney, Scotland.

    Notes:

    He was Lord High Treasurer of Scotland, and a zealous Royalist, who, on the outbreak of the Great Rebellion in 1642, provided ?100,000 for the cause by selling his Dalkeith estates to the Earl of Buccleuch. In return, he was granted the lordship of Orkney and Zetland. He also expanded his other seat, Aberdour Castle in Fife, with a Renaissance-style east wing.

    William married Ann (of Marischal) Keith on 28 Mar 1604. Ann (daughter of George (4th Earl Marishal) Keith and Margaret Home) died on 30 May 1648. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
