He and 3 brothers immagrated in Iowa in 1855. they came b y wagon. James and His brother John settled in Monona count y, just south of Turin township, Iowa. While brothers Cyru s and Charles Crabb continued on into Texas.
James sold his farm and purchased 1000 acress of mostly sw amp land. Just east of Little Sioux, Iowa. All for a dolla r an acre. Then sold all of it and purchased 500 acres of t imberland. this located in present day River Sioux. he buil t a sawmill and sold timber. he also gave the railroad th e rightaway. Later he bought 173 acres south of Smith Lake . he also sold lots on his timber property and establishe d River Sioux, Iowa.

Oddly she has 25 dollars listed next t o her name. Strange for a wife to have seperate money liste d. Is she his wife? Listed under him with last name of Crab b.

Located in 1880 census. This clarifies C. A. being his wif e in 1860 census. She is listed Charlette age 36 born in Il linois. They are located in Morgan township, Harrison Co. , Iowa. he later become a missionary, and the head of the c hurch. james lived to be 101 years old when he passed away . On his 100th birthday he preached a 45 minute sermon. Hi s voice was steady while he stood in the pulpit. In 1928 o r 1929 he sold his home and moved to Pisgha Iowa. That hous e remains standing today.
