In 1909, C.W. Eltzroth petitioned the Montgomery County Board ofCommissioners to begin a registry of Old Settlers. In his own words,"Ibelieve that such a book would not only be a source of gratificationto these pioneers, but of great value to their children and futuregenerations and would be a valuable book for reference in the matterof tracing ancestry and estates and obtaining statistics for futureuse."
