Josiah was a soldier in the Civil War. He enlisted on July 24, 1862and was mustered into service as a private in Company H, 84thRegiment, Illinois Volunteer Infrantry for a period of 3 years. Hisage was given as 21 years, He was 6' 3", hair brown, eyes hazel andhis complextion light. He was mustered out on 08 June 1865 at CampHarker, TN. While in service, he contracted a severe case of measleswith complications which affected his hearing and heart. Because ofthese disabilities, he requested and received a pension in his lateryears.
