    31 August 2008 - Received three photos from Les Erler, (1). Rev. JohnErler in his ministers robes, (2). Rosa Mae Marvin on their weddingday, (3). Rosa Mae Marvin Erler on their one year anniversary. Allthree photos were added to the compilers genealogy computer program.NOTE: Les stated also that his aunt had sent, besides the threephotos, a Hamburg-Amerika Line menu from July 2, 1925. This date mustbe one of the years that Rev. John Erler returned to Germany for ashort time.

    OBITUARY: "REV. ERLER DIES; BUILT GARY CHURCH
    Rev. John Erler, retired pastor of the Grace English Lutheran church,died last night in Methodist hospital at the age of 73 following along illness. He had maintained his residence at 821 Grant. Rev.Erler was instrumental on building the present church at 5th andLincoln to replace a small frame structure. Subsequently he broughtabout the city's development of two small parks adjoining the church.He served as pastor of Grace church from 1921 to 1927, after arrivinghere from Altoona, Pa. In 1927 he went to Detroit to become pastor ofOlivet Lutheran church, remaining there until 1933 when he returned toGary. He remained active in the ministry of his church untilretirement in 1945. In fraternal affairs, he served as chaplain ofRoosevelt Masonic lodge for a number of years. He also was affiliatedwith Orak Shrine, the Elks, Odd Fellows, the Indiana Synod and theGary Ministerial association. Survivors are three sons, Harry W. ofCrown Point and Victor and John, Jr. of Gary; and three daughters,Mrs. Louise Hicks, Mrs. Roberta Hoefleber, and Miss Elaine, Erler, allof Gary, and six grandchildren. His wife Rosa died in Gary in 1934.Services will be held in Grace church at 1 p.m. Tuesday, with Rev.Frank Hurst officiating. The body will be at the church from noonuntil time of the service after being moved from the Williams andBurns funeral home. Burial will be in Ridge Lawn Cemetery." HisDeath Certificate shows Emma which was provided by his eldestdaughter, Louise. We tend to accept the Latter for Louise took overthe household and became mother to the younger children upon the deathof her mother, Rosa, in 1934. etc....In 1911-12, the family consistingof John, Estelle, Russell, Harry and Rosa Marvin (housekeeper) wereLiving in Saugerties, NY where John was serving as Pastor of AtonementLutheran Church." etc..     "About Rosa Mae Marvin:
    1. Her Death Certificate indicates she was born on 4/6/1882 inCourtland, NY
    ( just outside Syracuse ). Her father was William Marvin of New Yorkand her mother
    unknown.
    2. The 1900 Census reflects Rosa M. Marvin as a 7 year old living inthe Onandaga
    Orphan Asylum in Syracuse, NY. Her parents, no name given, areindicated as born
    in New York. It also appears as though she had a brother and sister.
    3. The 1910 Census reflected a Rosa M. Marion ( Marvin ), 18, as aservant living
    in John Erler's household in East Tewksbury, NJ. ( Parents born in NewYork. )
    4. The 6/5/15 edition of the Connellsville Daily Courier ( PA )reported " Rev. Dr.
    John Erler, Pastor of Rockwood Lutheran Church, left Wednesday for
    Cumberland, Md. to meet his bride, Miss Rosa Nevin ( Marvin ) of NewYork City,
