    "Joyce Lorraine Clore Elkins notes: "Moved to Harrison Co., MO. on1852. Francis Elkins, grandparents Francis Stephens & wife, came fromPulaski Co., KY with their daughter's family Wm. Elkins about 1820 toJackson Co., Ind. They were some of the 1st settlers. FrancisStephens built a small log cabin about 1/2 mile from Houston, Ind.(Jackson Co., Salt Creek Twp.). His grandson, Francis Elkins, ispossibly enumerated with him & his wife in 1820 Jackson Co. Census(Grandparents ages 45+)." [14 January 2008, SLJuhl, compiler]

    Francis, along with his brother (Thomas) and sister (Nancy), travelledto what was then, Jackson County, Indiana (now Brown County), with hismother (Rhoda) and step-father (William). William, who married Rhodaafter the death of his (James's) father (Richard), was his uncle.Francis and Lucinda later moved into Bartholomew County, Indiana,where they are found in 1860.
