  1. 1.  David Hunter (son of Major William (Yr of Burnside) Hunter); died on 1 Oct 1847 in Prospect Hill, Douglas, Isle of Man.

    Notes:

    David Hunter was the eldest child of Major William Hunter who had died at Scinde in 1845. He married Margaret Wemyss Henderson, daughter of the late James Henderson, a merchant or manufacturer from Kirkcaldy. David succeeded on the death of his grandfather but died a year later at the age of 26 at Rushen Abbey, Isle of Man in 1847. His short life and shorter marriage left only one child, an infant, to follow his Lairdship.

  1. 2.  Major William (Yr of Burnside) Hunter (son of General David (9th of Burnside) Hunter and Margaret Douglas); died in 1845 in Scinde, India.

    Notes:

    Major William Hunter, had fought in the Peninsular War, and served as military secretary to the Governor of Australia. He then became aide to his uncle, General George Hunter at Scinde, India where he died predeceasing his father.

  1. 4.  General David (9th of Burnside) Hunter was born about 1770 (son of Charles (8th Laird of Burnside) Hunter); died in 1846.

    Notes:

    General David Hunter, 9th Laird of Burnside, succeeded his father and married Margaret Douglas. His son, Major William, pre-deceased him so the estate went to his grandson.

    General David Hunter, was born in 1765. He married Margaret Douglas, daughter of William Douglas, 2nd of Brigton, in 1794 and inherited the estate on his father's death in 1809 when he became 9th Laird of Burnside. He was appointed Lieutenant Colonel of the Angus Fencibles, started by his father, on the 20th of October 1794. In 1802 the Angusshire Fencibles were disbanded in Perth on the 19th July. This was in line with a new government idea and David was promoted Colonel and transferred on the 29th of April 1802. He was awarded his Major General on the 25th of October 1809 and Lieutenant General on the 4th of June 1814.

    David married Margaret Douglas on 2 Jun 1794. Margaret (daughter of William (2nd of Brigton) Douglas and Elizabeth Graham) was born on 2 Jan 1770; died in 1846. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Her family home was Douglastown by Forfar.

  1. 8.  Charles (8th Laird of Burnside) Hunter (son of David (7th of Burnside) Hunter); died in 1809.

    Notes:

    Charles Hunter, 8th Laird of Burnside, had another brother, who died without issue, and a sister Ann. His son General David Hunter, 9th Laird of Burnside, succeeded him when he died.

    Charles Hunter, 8th Laird of Burnside, had eleven children, 8 of whom are mentioned [in this bond]. His eldest, David, inherited the estate on his father's death in 1809 and became 9th Laird of Burnside. Two of his other sons are not mentioned: John who emigrated to South Carolina after eloping and William who was murdered by Pirates in the Far East in 1790's

    Margaret died without marrying. She had three other sisters, including Lillias and Mary Ann. She also had seven brothers.

    Lillias Hunter and her siblings were the children of Charles Hunter, 8th Laird of Burnside. Mary Ann was one of Lillias' sisters. Her brothers were: General David Hunter, 9th Laird of Burnside; William Hunter, John Hunter who emigrated to South Carolina in America; Dr. Charles Hunter; Nairn Douglas Hunter, General George Hunter, Adam Hunter. Her other sisters were Anne and Margaret.

  2. 10.  William (2nd of Brigton) Douglas was born on 18 Jan 1745 (son of Robert (1st of Brigton) Douglas and Anne (of Burnside) Hunter); died on 28 Sep 1814.

    William married Elizabeth Graham in 1767. Elizabeth (daughter of Robert (11th of Fintry) Graham and Margaret (of Ochtertyre) Murray) was born in Unknown; died in 1816. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    She was the subject of a painting by Henry Raeburn
