Generation: 4

  1. 8.  *Thomas Rakestraw was born in 1797 in New Jersey; died in Probably Mason County, Illinois.

    Notes:

Henry bought land in 01 July 1848 in Mason County, Ohio and so did hisbrother Simon Rakestraw very near to him. So, Henry's children whosebirths are after that date probably were all born on the farm in MasonCounty, Illinois after 1848. There is no land record for ThomasRakestraw at the time when Simon & Henry purchased land, however inthe 1850 census Thomas and his second wife Prudence are living inMason County with Simon. All three are listed right after HenryRakestraw and his entire family at the time on the same census sheet.
Before this, the family must have moved from Ohio, where Henry wasborn, to Iowa for a short time, where Henry's sons John E. & Allenwere listed as being born in the 1850 census, and then the family wasin Illinois by 1843 in Clay County, where Thomas and Prudence weremarried, before settling in 1848 in Mason County. I'd like to pointout that in the 1860 census, John E. is listed as being born inIndiana, and Allen as being born in Illinois. ??

There may be more children for this couple. More research is requiredto find the name of Thomas first wife and if there are more children. The initial attempt to find early information on Thomas in New Jerseydid not produce much substance.
