    Notes:

    Drayton Long served in the Confederate Army. His regiment was : 3rd Battalion, South Carolina Light Artillery (Palmetto Battalion)

    The 1880 Census lists Drayton I. Long (birth year 1847) and wife, Catherine (birth year 1850). His occupation is listed as "Farmer".

    In the 1930 Census, Drayton Long is listed as living with his daughter, Mary C. Meetze and her children.

    Drayton I. Long is miss printed in several places as Drayton J. Long. It seems that a lot of people thought his name was Drayton Jacob Long instead of Drayton Isaiah Long.

    The 1880 Census lists his name as Drayton I. Long. His signature shows the " I" looking like a "J" in some places.

    Notes:

    Thomas Long was about 10 months old when his father, Bartholomew, died.
    His mother, Catherine, was much younger than her husband and was left a widow at the age of about 35 years. She later married Philip Gruber. In about 1810, 10 years after their father's death, Thomas and his 2 brothers were deeded 150 acres of land on the North side of Camping Creek.

    The 1880 Census lists John Thomas Long, age 80, and his wife, Elizabeth Long, age 65. His occupation is listed as "Farmer".

    Notes:

    Bartholomew Long died in 1800 in Newberry County, leaving his wife, Mary Catherine Minnick Long with three babies. His three sons (George Bartholomew, John Jacob and John Thomas) were almost 4 years old, 2 years old and 10 months old at thier father's death.

    Catherine Minnick Long was about 35 years old when Bartholomew died and she married Philip Gruber after the death of Bartholomew.

    Catherine and Phillip Gruber had a daughter who married Henry Smith.

    It is possible that Catherine married a third time to a Cromer.

    The Estate of Bartholomew Long shows that Catherine had trouble getting money from the Estate and had to petition the courts for money each year for support and schooling of the three sons. The Estate papers indicate that the sons were educated for $15.00 per year each. The sons were not deeded their father's land until about 10 years after his death. 150 acres on the North side of Camping Creek was deeded to the three sons of Bartholomew Long

    The Estate of Bartholomew Long lists property: ......Horses and furniture, His apparel, Horned Cattle, Sheep & Swine, Plows and Implements, Anvill and Balles, Crops gathered - fodder and corn and cotton, Flour and Brandy.

    Notes:

    It appears that Mary Catherine Minick was married to Bartholomew Long first, then to Andrew Cromer and then to Phillip Gruber. The widow and heirs of Andrew Cromer in 1809, sold land from the estate of Andrew Cromer (Nby Deeds J 473)
