"WILLIAM FARNER AND KATHERINE DAVIS OF SYLVANIA, INDIANA
William and Katherine (Catherine), were listed as parents on twomarriage applications in the court house in Fountain County,Covington, Indiana, by John Farner, father of Gladys Farner Elkins. Ibelieve William to be the son of Conrad Farner from Virginia, whosettled in Liberty Township, Parke County, Indiana. Only information(not proven though) is from 1850 Liberty Township, Parke County,Indiana census. William was either a son or a very near relative.William is also mentioned with wife Katherine and children in the 1870census. Only William and children listed in the 1880 census. Havenot been able to locate William and Katherine's other children, exceptpossibly William Farner of Montezuma, Parke County, Indiana, who wouldbe a son of William and a brother of John's. Gladys only remembershaving been told that William was a half brother to her father John." Which is important that it tells us William was married before hemarried Catherine probably (SLJuhl).
"Only two relatives were ever known to Gladys Farner Elkins: WILLIAMFARNER of Montezuma, Parke County, Indiana and CLARENCE S. FARNER, whois suppose to be a cousin who was born in Tangier, Parke County,Indiana, Liberty Township, and who lived in Saint Bernice, VermillionCounty, Indiana." "I talked with him before he passed away and hesaid he never knew who his parents were. I have put their historiesin these pages as not proven, but maybe some day they will be."
"This history will begin with the proven family of John H. Farner, sonof William and Katherine Davis Farner, and continue with what is knownof the Farner Families of Parke County in Liberty Township, and alldata that has been collected to the present time. (1992)" [Written byJoyce Lorraine Clore Elkins, 1992] [Transcribed by, SLJuhl, compiler,22 June 2005]
