The Delaware Co. Cemetery Listing indicated that James R. died age 19, 7/4/1856 Son of Thomas & Sarah. Errors were mentioned in the list so this source has less credibility without actually visiting the cemetery.

  1. 2.  James Mcneilly Gibson was born on 10 Jan 1810 in Northern Ireland (son of William Gibson and Isabella); died on 21 Oct 1897 in Delaware Co., NY; was buried in Woodland Cemetery, Delhi, Delaware Co., NY.

    Notes:

James McNeilly Gibson was my grgrandfather's brother and executor of their father,William's, will. I am trying to get someone to see if there is a letter of transfer for the family at Gilchrist Memorial Presbyterian Church.
There were SEVEN brothers and they all came over from N.Ireland. I have information on them from the 1830's on because they all show up in the census. You once told me that you had a reunion book for the James Gibson family. Are there any other McNeilly's listed there? I have been to LDS but N. Ireland is a hard place to find information. I'm guessing that Isabelle, the mother was either a McNeilly or a Craig. A Craig was also an executor of William's will.

James married Sarah Whigham on 19 Apr 1834 in Delhi, Delaware Co., NY. The 1880 census for Kortright shows:

Could these be siblings of Sarah?

It is possible that your Amelia (1819) is the daughter of Gideon Wickham. Gideon, the son of John Wickham and Thankful Briggs died in Harpersfield I think around 1809. I do not have the information with me now, so apologize for the uncertainty. He did leave a will however.

A couple of weeks ago someone was enquiring about the townland of "Whigamstown" in Bright, Co Down. Well, I have lived in Bright all my life and I had'nt a clue where it was. I assumed it was an old and obsolete name which would be difficult to find. However, I happened to put a laminated copy of the following map:

Discoverer Series - Strangford Lough 1:50000 Sheet 21 (Ordnance Survey of Northern Ireland)

on my "study" wall yesterday. Then I looked at it to see all the familiar names and places. There, right in the middle of this area I thought I knew so well, was the word "Whigamstown". I've never heard my family use the name, but it is there all the same. It can be found in Ordnance Survey Sheet 45 (that's the traditional OS sheets). In Griffiths Valuation of 1863 it had 17 properties listed. The names are; Fitsimons(1 mention), Lavery(1), Starkey(3), Stewart(4), Hynes(1), Lowey(1), Ross(1), Denvir(1), McIlheron(1), Hanna(1), Ennis(2). The
immediate lessor (agent or landlord) for 13 of the 17 properties was Aubrey De Vere Beauclerk. The family names mentioned in the Tithe Applotment of 1833 for this townland are very similar if not exactly the same.

From this map it is possible to see exactly where Whigamstown is. There are other Griffiths evaluation maps with property lot numbers on them which often allow one (if one is prepared to put in the time and effort) to identify the precise location of the properties of individual families. I have done this with my "own" townland and been able to identify all the properties or locations of
families who once lived there in 1833, from the information available. This included the identification of family properties that my family either did not know about or had forgotten.

GIBSON, William 19 May 1836, acknowledged his guilt to a charge of intemperance
and was sentenced to be publicly rebuked; 30 May 1837, was suspended from church
privileges because of intoxication; 21 Sep 1837 he failed to attend a meeting of the
Session as requested; 4 Jun 1838, acknowledged the "Sin of Intoxication" and was
    sentenced to be publicly rebuked
(This could have been William Jr.)

It is likely that William Gibson came to the US in 1834 with his son Adam. See notes for James A. Gibson.

    Todd,
Very interesting. Did you find the information on the Whigam/ Whicham's on
the Delaware Co site/ Either in the Biog. Review or Munsell's History I
remember seeing something about the family coming to DelCo from Dutchess
County. I think there were also some buried in Delco that would predate our
Gibsons' arrival, yet Jame's bio says he and his wife came from N. Ireland.
I could be wrong but something sticks in my memory about cemetery records.
Deborah Sweet (her greatgrandfather Wright married my grandfather Gibson's
sister) told me her Wright family came from Newry, Armagh, which is possibly
where the Gibsons originated. It seems as though there were Newry people in
    Kortright.
    Best regards,
    Catherine

I think I've gotten the Gibsons narrowed down to Moneyslane, Drumgooland Parish, County Down. Someone on line told me that LDS has a microfilm for the Presbyterian Church there. When I have a chance I'll drop in at our local LDS Family History Center. I found my mother's family there very quickly.
