    John Leslie Boots was born 9 November 1894, in New Brighton, Beaver County, Pennsylvania, and died 28 January 1988, in Florida. He married 24 December 1917, Florence SCHUMACHER, who was born 27 February 1896. He was a dental missionary, and built a five-story dental clinic in Seoul, Korea, where he spent most of his life. They resided in Clearwater, Florida, in the late 1960's, and he resided in South Pasadena, Florida at the time of his death. They were members of the Presbyterian Church, and had four children.

    OBITUARY of John S. Boots, from a newspaper clipping dated July 7, 1921:

    "John S. Boots is called by death. Prominent New Brighton citizen succumbs on the Fourth. Ill Several Months. Member of well known family and identified with fraternal lodges for years.

    "John Sheridan Boots, a member of an old Beaver County family, and a man prominent in the business and social life of his home town, New Brighton, died Monday afternoon at 1:24 o'clock, at his home, 510 Thirteenth avenue, after a long illness. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the First Presbyterian Church and the burial will be in Grove Cemetery.

    "Mr. Boots was born in North Sewickley township July 9, 1867, and would have been 54 years of age had he lived until Saturday. He was a son of the late Edmund R. Boots. He is survived by his wife and four sons, Edmund R. Boots of East Orange, N.J.; Dr. Ralph H. Boots of New York City; Major N. Jay Boots of Dayton, O., and Dr. J. L. Boots of Seoul, Korea; also by two brothers and two sisters.

    "Mr. Boots was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, of Union lodge No. 259, F. & A. M., Harmony Chapter, No. 206, R. A. M.; Mt. Moriah Council No. 2, R. & S.; Beaver Valley Commandery, No. 84, K. S., Scottish Rite Masons; Knights of the Maccabees, No. 190, and Social lodge, No. 351, K. of P. For many years Mr. Boots was engaged in the retail grocery business, but retired some years ago. He had since been prominently identified with the Maccabees. He was also a director of the Old National Bank of New Brighton."

    Obituary of Elizabeth Boots, from an undated newspaper clipping:

    "Died this morning. Mrs. Elizabeth Boots, wife of John S. Boots, of upper Fifth street, died this morning at 7 o'clock, from scarlet fever, with which she had been suffering for the past week. She was 28 years of age and was the eldest daughter of R. H. McPherson, of Tenth avenue. She leaves beside her husband, four children, the youngest being but a week old. The funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock.

    "Deceased was a member of the M. E. church, and her daily life was consistent with her profession. The family have the sympathy of all in their bereavement."

  1. 8.  Edmund Rutledge Boots was born on 26 Sep 1842 in Beaver County, Pennsylvania (son of Edmund Boots and Eliza Dean Caldwell); died on 3 Nov 1911 in Beaver County, Pennsylvania; was buried in Grove Cemetery, New Brighton, Beaver County, Pennsylvania.

    Edmund Rutledge Boots was born 26 September 1842, in North Sewickley Township, Beaver County, Pennsylvania. He died 3 November 1911, in New Brighton, Beaver County, Pennsylvania, and is buried there in Grove Cemetery. He married 1st, 20 September 1866, Alice Jane BARTON, daughter of William BARTON, who was born in 1842, and died 12 February 1886, in New Brighton, Beaver County, Pennsylvania. She is buried in Grove Cemetery. He married 2nd, 1 October 1890, Mrs. Clara Alexander BAKER, widow of Samuel BAKER. He had six children by his first wife.

    From a History of Beaver County, Pennsylvania, published in 1888, comes the following account of Edmund R. Boots:

    "Edmund R. Boots, merchant, New Brighton, was born in North Sewickley township, Beaver county, Pa., in 1843, and is the youngest in the family of four children of Edmund and Eliza (Caldwell) Boots, the latter a native of Huntingdon county, Pa. The father, the second son of Ambrose and Elizabeth (Bull) Boots, parents of four children, came from Sussex, England, when eighteen years of age, and in 1833 to Beaver county, where he purchased 160 acres of land, and has since resided. At the age of seventeen years Edmund R. enlisted in Company H, 101st Regiment, P. V., serving four years. He participated in the Siege of Yorktown, battles of Williamsburg and Fair-Oaks, the Seven Days fight, and other engagements. He was a commissioned officer, in Company H, Fifth Artillery, during the last nine months of the war; returned to Beaver county in 1865, and the next year engaged in general merchandise business in New Brighton. He married, Sept. 20, 1866, Alice J., daughter of William Barton, of North Sewickley township and six children have been born to them (five yet living): John S. (assisting his father in the store), E. W., Mary Bell (deceased), Alice E., Frank and Hattie C. The mother died Feb. 12, 1886. Mr. Boots is a member of the town council and treasurer of the borough, and is a Republican in politics. He is an adherent of the Methodist Episcopal church."

    An Obituary of Edmund R. Boots was provided by the late Betty Dean Boots:

    EDMUND R. BOOTS

    "Edmund R. Boots, one of the oldest and best known citizens of New Brighton, died at 4:45 o'clock this morning at his residence, 510 Third avenue, after a short illness. Death was due to a general breaking down of his system.

    "He was born in North Sewickley township, September 26, 1842, and was 70 years of age. He was a member of the official board of the Grace M. E. Church and had been president of the financial board since the organization of the church. He was a veteran of the Civil War, having served in Co. H. 101 P. V. I., and later re-inlisted in Co. B, 5th Heavy Artillery. He served with distinction and faithfulness throughout the war. Mr. Boots had been prominently identified with the business interests of New Brighton for 37 years, having conducted a grocery store in Third avenue. He was always foremost in promoting anything looking to the welfare of the borough. Of late years he had been retired from active business but continued to be interested in affairs in New Brighton. Mr. Boots was a member of Post No. 208, G. A. R. and of Roberts Lodge No. 450, I. O. F.

    "He is survived by his wife and two daughters, Mrs. Hattie Watson and Miss Alice Boots, of McKeesport; also three sons, Frank and E. W. of McKeesport, and John S. Boots, of New Brighton. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 Sunday afternoon from his late residence in Third avenue and the remains will be interred in Grove Cemetery."

    Edmund married Alice Jane Barton on 12 Sep 1866 in New Brighton, Beaver County, Pennsylvania. Alice (daughter of William Barton) was born in 1842; died on 12 Feb 1886 in Beaver County, Pennsylvania; was buried in Grove Cemetery, New Brighton, Beaver County, Pennsylvania.
