"Golden roamed the mountains hunting with his long tom gun and playing his banjo for get togethers. He had learned the "old time way" and none of his children or grandchildren could pick up his banjo pickin style. " "Golden never went back to the mountains of his childhood. He said that in the old Feuding days the McMahans fought on the Hensley side.
Oral tradition from this family states that golden's grandfather Archibald married a full blooded Cherokee named Noma and that two sons John and William Bryson were born of this marriage. Other records dispute this as Bryson's mother is listed as Jensey or Jane McMahan.
Golden married Idella Telitha Alice Cogdill on 6 Oct 1909. Idella was born on 2 Jul 1886; died on 15 Jul 1967 in Henderson Co., North Carolina. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
