Notes:

On the ships record he is listed as John Groom and on the 1900 censusrecord he is listed as James. It is interesting to note this, andrequires more research. But, they are one in the same person sinceeach time he was listed in either of the records the family was listedwith him and they are identical in both records. His age andoccupation are the same as well. So, I have listed both names for nowuntil his given name is clarified. It could be just as written awell. It was fortunate that Thomas had a World War One RegistrationCard, because it gave the location of where the family was from inEngland. The writing is difficult to make out somewhat, and the bestinterpretation known is listed after some research was done into thedifferent names of the counties in England. The copy was photoenlarged and the best spelling that can be ascertained is"Leshingtdom, England" possibly meaning the largest town ofLeicestershire it self. Although, it could also be that of a smallvillage that this compiler is not aware of as yet also. It wasprobably spelled the way it "sounded" at the time to the person whowrote it down.
In the 06 June 1900 Federal Census for Richland, Mercer County,Illinois is found the family with the exception of John James's wifeMary. She was listed with them on the voyage to New York in 1893, butis not now in the 1900 census. The family was headed according to theships log directly to Viola in Mercer County from New York. Mary mayhave died in Mercer County sometime between 1893 and 1900. Also, JohnJames is not found in the 1910 Census records for Illinois. By 1910,Thomas is married and living in Rock Island County, and John G. is nolonger living. [10 January 2007, SLJuhl, compiler]
