    Notes:

    From Bryan Cass:
Aaron was last known to have lived in Yuba county, CA. He may have died and been buried there, however, no evidence to support this has been found. Another possibility is that he "went to Canada" with his brother John, as has been suggested in Selkreg's book on Tompkins County.

He married Anna French before 1822. Aaron and Anna were first cousins, being children of Ruth Bull and Desire Bull, respectively. There were several first cousin marriages between these two families.

The marriage date of "before 1822" is just an estimate based on the birth date of their son Miles.

Anna was born in Otsego, NY Jan 1796. Anna(1254) was the daughter of Judge John French and Desire Bull. Anna died 18 Feb 1860 in Tioga, NY, at 64 years of age. Anna moved to town of Dix in 1842, according to 1855 NY State Census. She lived on Franklin St., Watkins Glen, NY.

He bought property in Orange, Steuben, NY, 13 Jul 1838.(1255) From French's 1860 NY Gazetteer:

Schuyler County: ORANGE was formed from Wayne, (Steuben Co) Feb 12, 1813, as "Jersey". It's name was changed Feb 20, 1836.

Orange later became part of Schuyler Co.

He bought property in Orange, Steuben, NY, 18 Nov 1839.(1256) He bought property in Orange, Steuben, NY, 23 Mar 1841.(1257) He bought property in Yuba County, CA, 19 Feb 1859.(1258) Text of deed:

Aaron traveled to California before 1850 to join in the "gold rush." After settling first in Tuolumne County, CA, Aaron had apparently moved from there (probably to Yuba county) soon after the 1850 census, as he was not found in any local records at the Tuolumne County Genealogical Society - including the Miner's and Businessmen's Index, Pioneer Roster, Alley's Tuolumne County History, and the 1852 CA state census for Tuolumne County. Aaron was visited by at least one family member while in California, son George Whitman Cass, who shows up with him in the 1860 federal census of Yuba County, CA.

In Selkreg's book on Tompkins County (Landmarks of Tompkins County, NY by John H. Selkreg, 1894; D. Mason & Co., Publisher), Aaron is mentioned on page 283: "Aaron and John Cass went to Canada." So perhaps he moved from California after 1860 with his brother John to Canada. Further research is required to substantiate this.

Aaron married Anna French before 1822. Anna (daughter of Judge John French and Desire Bull) was born in Jan 1796 in Otsego, NY; died on 18 Feb 1860 in Tioga, NY. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Notes:

According to "Descendants of John Casse":

He was serving in place of his son Josiah, who was on leave at the time.

He served in the military during war time 3 Jun 1778 in Litchfield, CT.(739) Aaron was a private from Connecticut in the American Revolution and the War of 1812, in which he was killed. The Revolutionary War record of Aaron Cass shows that he was a private in Capt. David Olmsted's Company, having arrived in camp on 3 June 1778. He was discharged in September 1778 in Col. Enos' Regiment on the Hudson River. He is listed in "Connecticut Men in the Revolution" on page 537, and on the Honor Roll of Litchfield County, CT, Revolutionary Soldiers.

    Notes:

    From "Descendants of John Casse":

He married Phebe Peters in Hebron, Tolland, CT, 16 Aug 1744.(242) Phebe was born in Hebron, Tolland, CT 30 Jun 1728.(243) Phebe(244) was the daughter of John Peters and Mary Marks. Phebe died 11 Feb 1773 in Kent, Litchfield, CT, at 44 years of age.(245) Phoebe is possibly buried in Good Hill Cemetery, Kent, CT, according to Fran Johnson of Kent, CT. There is empty space next to her husband Moses' grave. There is no stone for her there, and it was not standing in 1934 when all the stones were read by the WPA project. The stone may have broken or fallen and become buried.

Moses's will was probated in New Milford, Litchfield, CT, Dec 1797.(246) Moses died intestate; that is, without a will. His only surviving son Aaron Cass was appointed Administrator of the estate, seemingly to the objection of his brothers in law Nathaniel Hatch, Dr. Isaac Swift, Heman Carter, Pelig Holmes and Gershom Holmes. They cited Aaron's "want of property, and being destitute of integrity, economy(?) and punctuality." However, Aaron came up with the required bond and was ordered to bring an inventory of the estate, which was appraised at $85.76 personal items and $1,367 real estate, as follows: 1 red cow $16.67 1 spotted cow 14.17 1 black cow 12.00 1 horse 15.00 1 gun without a lock 1.83 1 old feather bed 7.00 1 old hand saw iron plate 0.34 1 pr. silver show buckles 1.34 1 pr. silver knee buckles 1.00 1 set bullet moulds 0.26 1 hone 0.34 1 iron crowbar 18th 17th 0.75 1 set or pr. of uprights to andirons 0.67 1 pr. velvet breeches 2.00 1 felt hat 0.34 1 pr. large steelyards 2.50 1 pr. small steelyards 0.34 1 old shirt 0.14 1 sattenitt vest 0.62 1 black velvet vest 0.45 1 blue lite coat 3.34 1 blue great coat 2.17 1 mixed cotton vest 0.34 1 old strate bodyed coat 0.26 1 pair tobacco tongs 0.26 1 carterage box 0.34 1 gouge 0.17 1 pr. worsted stockings 0.17 1 pr. blue & white stockings 0.34 1 pr. blue & white old stockings 0.17 1 black silk handkerchief 0.10 1 pr. mittings 0.17 1 power horn 0.17 ----- $85.76

The above information was extracted from a "Moses Cass Record" at the New Milford Probate Court, New Milford, CT.
