  1. 1.  John Branch, (5) was born on 3 Mar 1694 in Norwich, Connecticut, USA (son of Peter Branch, (2) and Hannah [Lincoln] Branch); died in 3 Jan.

    Notes:

    He made his home in Preston, Conn. on what is sometimes still called GBranch Hill. The house that he built is still used as a habitation.

    John married Martha [Williams] Branch on 20 Oct 1726. Martha (daughter of Nicholas Williams and Dorcas [Davison] Williams) and died. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  1. 2.  Peter Branch, (2) was born on 28 May 1659 in Branch's Island, Marshfield, Mass. (son of John Branch, (3) and Mary [Speed] Branch); died on 27 Dec 1713.

    Notes:

    Peter Branch the third child of John and Mary, at the age of 21 moved to Taunton, Mass. where he Married Hannah Lincoln, Daughter of Thomas and Mary Lincoln. Hannah The niece of Samuel Lincoln from whom Abraham Lincoln traced his descent and granddaughter of Thomas Lincoln, the miller.
    Peter moved to Norwich, Conn. in 1680 and is listed as one of the nineteen persons to petition the Legislature for the incorporation of New Preston as an independent town in Oct., 1686. The petitionwas granted in Jan., 1687. A quit-claim and confirmatory deed of the newtownship, comprising a tract five miles in length between Stonington and Norwich, was obtained from the Mogegan Sachem on Mar. 17, 1687. It purports to be from "Oaneco to Capt. James Fitch Capt. Josiah Standish, Thomas Arke. Sen., Jonathan Tracy, Joseph Morgan, and all the rest of the inhabitants living in New Preston", and is signed by the mark of Oanaco, and witnessed by John Morgan, John Stanton, and the mark of John Uncas.

    Notes:

    Hannah The niece of Samuel Lincoln from whom Abraham Lincoln traced his descent and granddaughter of Thomas Lincoln, the miller.
    Thomas Lincoln, the miller, her grandfather, was born in 1603. He came to America in 1633 and settled in Taunton, Mass., where he built and operated the old mill in which three commissioners from Boston met King Philip for explanation of his hostile maneuvers.

  1. 4.  John Branch, (3) was born in 1628 in High Holden, Kent County, England (son of Peter Branch and Elizabeth [Gillame] Branch); died on 17 May 1711.

    Notes:

    Saddler
    left for America in 1638 Mass. with his father who died on the trip. He landed at Sciuate, Mass., and by the terms of his father's will was placed under the guardianship of Thomas Wilborne, a saddler, to learn the saddler's trade. In 1643 he moved to Duxbury and several years later, to Marshfield where he purchase and named Branch's Island.

  1. 8.  Peter Branch was born on 27 Feb 1596 in High Holden, Kent County, England (son of John Branch, (2)); died on 16 Jun 1638 in Atlantic Ocean.

    Notes:

    Left for America in 1638, Mass. Died on the trip.
    "More than two centuries ago... England was growing jealous of her colonies, and decided to stop emigration. Therefore, in 1638, when eight ships were preparing to sail for America, laden with supplies and passengers, it was reported that they were to be detained. The captain of one of these ships, called the "Castle", hearing of the report, hastened his passengers aboard and set sail before being officially detained."
    Peter Branch and his son, John, were passengers on board this boat. Peter was destined never to see the land that he planned to make his home. He died on the voyage and was buried at sea, leaving his ten year old son to the care of Thomas Wilborne, and old friend from Kent County who was residing in Scituate, Massachusetts

    Peter's Will;
    The last will and Testemaent of Peter Branch late of Halden in Kent of owld England Carpenter, being weake in bodye but of good perfect sence and memorye. I will and bequeath and comitt uto Thomas Wilborne, late of Fonterden in Kent in owld England, my sonne, John Branch to have the charge of him providing for, and overseeinge him always a carefull, and faithful ffaafeere, during the terme of eleven yeares from benceforth Dated the sixteenth Daye of June 1638. And also I comitt unto his hands, duringe the terme of yo time of eleven yeares, my whole estate to use this whole terme of time payinge the sayde estate at the end of this terme to the sayde John Branch, sonne of the aforesayd Peter Branch, or the worth thereof, in good and lawful monye, beinge equally preised, by Judiciall men, but my minde and will is that the sayd Thomas Wilburne shall discharge all my debtes out of the afore-mentioned estate which I leave in his hands further more my will is , that if my sonne shall dye before he come to the end of this time, that then the saide Thomas Wilborne shall give to widowe Igleden the late wife of Stephen Igelden, or to his children, or to her children she had by him, the full some of five poinds of good and lowfull monye.
    Item, I will and bequeath to Thomas wilborne for the keepinge of my sonne the full some of eight pounds of good and lowfull monye, if that my sonne John shall dye before the term of the first fower years be expired, but if that he dye not within this term of fwewer years but afterwards within the term of eleven yeares, that then it shalbe im loyed as is before, and shalbe after.
    Item I will and bequeath if that my sonne John shall dye before the terme of eleven years be expired, that then what remaynes in the hands of the said Thomas Wilborne, shalbe given to the use of the pore of those three congregations, of Concord of Sittuate & to that congregation whicha Company that goes in the Shipp called the Castle, if there be a company of them if not then to be devided the aforesd two congregations, only provided that the sayed Thomas Wilborne shall have the use of the said eight pownds till the eleven years be expired, though he dye not within the fewer years, I do also ordeine my sonne John Branch sole Executor, & Thomas Wilborne my feafeer to whom I comitt the oversight of this my last will and testament.

    Peter was buried at sea leaving a 10 year old son.

    Peter married Elizabeth [Gillame] Branch on 13 Jan 1625. Elizabeth died on 9 Aug 1632. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
