"Bradley Sherwood, a Private of John R. Rop's Company 1 of the 84th and 57th Regiment of PA was aged 35 on 21 May 1865. He was 5'9" high, fair complexion, blue eyes, dark hair, a laborer. He was mustered in service as a recruit by Captain ... at Harrisburg, PA on the 30th day of September, 1862 to serve in the Regiment for a term of three years. He was discharged by reason of death August 24, 1864 in Rebel Prison at Andersonville, GA of diarrhea. He was last paid by Paymaster Webb to include 31th day of October 1863, and has pay due him from that time to the date of death. He is entitled to pay and subsistence for traveling to place of enrollment, and whatever other allowances are authorized to volunteer soldiers, drafted men, or militia, so discharged. He has received from the United States clothing amounting to $9.16 since 31 August 1863 when his clothing account was last settled. He has received from the United States $25.00 advanced bounty. Due soldier $75.00.
Given in duplicate, near Washington, DC the 21th day of May 1865. Signed - John R. Rop, Capt. 57th Pvv, Commanding Officer."
