Generations:      Standard    |    Vertical    |    Compact    |    Box    |    Text    |    Ahnentafel    |    Fan Chart    |    Media    |    PDF

Generation: 1

  1. 1.  *John William Blair was born on 5 Oct 1823 in County Antrim, Ulster, Ireland; To America (son of *James Belfast Merville Blair and *Ann Stuart); died between 1870 and 1880 in Millville, Cumberland County, New Jersey; was buried between 1870 and 1880 in Probably Mellville, Cumberland County, New Jersey.

    Notes:

A). John Sr. Blair did make the voyage to America it would seem withhis mother and siblings as per Annie Love Blair's notes of January1894. It would be appropriate also to assume here that since JohnSr.'s father had died on the voyage to America that his mother had ayoung family to support upon their arrival to America. It is alsolikely that John Sr. and his family lived near the Love family inPennsylvania as well at least a portion of the time since he and ElizaLove met and married there.
B). In the 1870 Federal census records, John B. was living with hisfather John Sr. after his mother's death in 1868. According to thecensus for John Sr. the value of his property was $2500.00, and hispersonal estate was of $600.00. This is no little means at this timein the economics of America. John Sr. was listed as working in afoundry for the 1870 census. It does not state if he was a laboureror a supervisor or a metal worker. The census does clear up one thingthough, since he was the only adult listed, he told the census takerthat he was born in Ireland, not Pennsylvania. Anne is now livingwith her grandmother Mary A. Love and her uncle Alexander Love inBucks County, Pennsylvania per the census records also.
C). It is unknown as to why the children, John B., and Anna, went tolive with their uncle Alexander Love in Henry County, Illinois by the1880 Census record. And as far as to what may have become of JohnSr., all we know at present about him is that he had a paralysis whenhe died with an unknown cause or history. How long he suffered withthe paralysis prior to his death is unknown.

[Transcribed 17 June 2006,SLJuhl, compiler] There isn't any indication, in the portion of AnnieLove Blair's record that we do have, that any of James' siblings orparents made the voyage to America along with James Blair's family.More research is required to continue to confirm the family'sinformation. Notes:

    # 1). Source: In the 1850 Federal Census in West Philadelphia,Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania, Ann was living with her son Stewartand his wife Hannah. It would seem that this does confirm a portionof the families records that "Aunt Bessie" had kept of the olderancestors.

PLEASE NOTE: Using the birth year and place of birth from the 1850Federal Census listed above, Ann is not found in the 1870 nor in the1880 Federal Census nation wide in the United States. It will beassumed then that Ann has died before c.1870 A.D. unless moreinformation should surface to change that assumption. Her last knownresidence will then be given as her death place as well.

The ancient seat of the Dukes and Earls of Atholl, Blair Castle datesfrom the 13th century. It has a magnificent setting in 2,500 acres ofgrounds within an estate of over 145,000 acres.

1). Source: "Annie Love Blair" kept a record of the family dated1894. Where this entire record is kept is unknown at the presenttime, however Joanne Irene Blair Dick does have a hand written portionof it from "Aunt Bessie Blair" written in June of 1988. Bessie Blairgives a family genealogy from this Ancestor John Blair of Irelandmarried to Margaret Dunlap to the present John Edward Blair married toHortense DeKezel and their children. The information was added to theBlair Family genealogy. It was photo copied by the compiler for theBlair/McCoy records on 17 June 2006. SLJuhl, compiler.

#2). Source: The hand written records of "Bessie" Elisabeth MildredBlair, born 12 Nov 1898 to John B. Blair resident of Henry County,Illinois, on the Blair Family. "Aunt Bessie" as she was lovinglyreferred to was notably the family historian. She faithfully keptnewspaper articles on the family as it grew in Illinois, and kept handwritten copied records as well of the families history from the olderdescendants. A good example would be from Annie Love Blair's notes ofJanuary 1894. And even though the earlier records are sketchy, they doprovide a good basic foundation for family research. Copies of therecords are kept in the Blair Records of Jozett Marie Blair McCoy, adirect descendant.

3). Source: Multiple census record copies from the web site ofwww.Ancestry.com; too numerous to list except in the actual notes ofthe individuals being researched.

4). Source: Descendants Ed & Carol Combs of California have been atremendous help to the research of this family by providing insight, access to marriage, death, and birth records from Henry County,Illinois. A good amount of research has been shared to help enlightenand add to the family's basic knowledge for posterity.

5). Source: Cemetery photos from several of the burial places of notonly the Blair Family, but of their extended families as well.

    6) Source: Records obtained from John & Marilyn Blair of Illinois.Who were kind enough to share records for copying from familyreunions, "Aunt Bessie's" notes, that included the note records fromAnnie Love Blair also.

7). Source: Three boxes of newspaper articles that had been kept by"Aunt Bessie Blair" from the early 1930's until her demise. Thearticles were obituaries, marriages, engagements, military, births,etc.. of all the family members. Plus, some really wonderful olderphotos.

8). Source: Internet sources have been also listed whereappropriate, and not all sources are listed in the end notes of theregister report. Many of the sources are listed in the notes of theperson/s they pertain to.

9). Source: The local libraries, in Davenport, Iowa; Moline & RockIsland, Illinois, have been a wealth of information for the genealogyand histories of the family. There are many more sources that havenot been mentioned, but all the records are kept in the Blair FamilyRecords of Jozett Marie Blair McCoy of Illinois, great granddaughter x4 generations of John Blair.

NOTE: THIS IS THE "BLAIR" FAMILY ANCESTORS. HOWEVER, IT IS NOT KNOWNEXACTLY HOW THE FAMILY LINE CONNECTS AT THE PRESENT TIME. MUCH MORERESEARCH IN IRELAND WILL NEED TO BE DONE AS YET. THIS FAMILY OFBLAIR'S IN AMERICA DOES KNOW THAT THEY ORIGINATED FROM THE COUNTY OFANTRIM IN IRELAND TO AMERICA, AND THAT THE ANCESTORS FOUGHT IN THE WAROF THE ROSES AS KNIGHTS. THE ABOVE BRYCE AND JAMES BLAIR ARE THE ONLYELDERS LISTED IN THE COUNTY OF ANTRIM DURING THE EARLY c.1700s TIMEPERIOD. IT IS NO DOUBT THE FAMILY LINE. ALSO, IT'S NOTED, THE AGESDO NOT EXACTLY CO-INSIDE WITH JOHN BLAIR (ABT. 1765), AND THERE IS AGENERATIONAL GAP. AS STATED, MORE RESEARCH IS NEEDED.

    Children:
    1. 4. *John Blair was born about 1765 in Ballyclare, County Antrim, Ulster, Ireland; and died.

  2. 10.  John Dunlop and died.
