2. | John Burn Notes:
(Research):[This is the portrait of] George Main who was born on 27th October 1793 in Wemyss Bay (we think). We think his father, also called George Main (b.1750 in Nairn), may have been the 'Mr Main from Edinburgh' who came to the area after serving in the navy. All the dates fit as do the Shaw Stuart connections. He married Margaret Craig on 23rd July in 1784. He died on 29th December 1837 in Inverkip.
Re George (1793) I also have the widow's locket with his portrait on one side and his lock of hair on the other. We also have a photo on glass of him as an older man which must have been quite an early example of the technology. George (1750) passed on the salmon lease to George (1793) as they were held in the family until around 1902. George (1793) was also listed as an innkeeper but we have no idea what that was all about.
????Is there a connection between George Main and the Burns family of Castle Wemyss, and with John Burn, here, and Jane Mayne?
