    Lodewijk I, zoon van Arnold II.

    Overleden op 11-08-1171, begraven te Borgloon (Gasthuiskapel). Hij werd er samen met zijn echtgenote Agnes begraven. Kapel en graf zijn nog steeds te bezichtingen. De 5de graaf van Loon van 1138/1140-1171.

    Hij was zeker uiterlijk op 11 april 1140 in functie getreden als graaf van Loon. Hij was tevens burggraaf van Mainz (D) en graaf van Rieneck (D).

    Gehuwd met Agnes van Metz, dochter van Folmar VI van Metz en Mathilde.

    Zij gaf aan Hendrik van Veldeke, de eerste Dietse dichter, de opdracht tot het schrijven van een Sint-Sevatiuslegende.

    Lodewijk I (? - 11 augustus 1171) was de vijfde graaf van Loon tussen 1139 en 1171. Hij liet in Brustem een burcht bouwen.

    Hij huwde Agnes van Metz, dochter van Folmar VI van Metz en Mathilde. Agnes gaf Hendrik van Veldeke de opdracht om de Sint-Servaeslegende te schrijven.

    Lodewijk schonk de Bolderbergwinning in Bolderberg, nu bekend als domein Bovy, aan de Norbertijnen van de abdij van Averbode.

    Lodewijk werd opgevolgd door zijn zoon Gerard. Dochter Imena of Imagina huwde met Godfried III van Brabant, en dochter Sophie of Guda huwde met Wouter Berthout, heer van Mechelen uit het Grimbergse geslacht der Berthouts. Dochter Agnes treedt in het huwelijk met Otto I van Beieren.

    Op 11 augustus 1171 mislukte de poging van Lodewijk om het graafschap Duras te veroveren. De graaf van Duras kreeg hulp van de burgers van Sint-Truiden en versloeg hem. Hierbij kwam Lodewijk om het leven.

    Lodewijk en zijn vrouw werden in de gasthuiskapel in Borgloon begraven. Hun graf is er nog steeds te zien.

    Il fut avou? de l'abbaye d'Averbode et fit b?tir la citadelle de Brustem. Il ?pousa Agn?s, fille de Folmar V, comte de Metz et de Mathilde de Dagsbourg. Ce mariage lui apporta des droits sur le Luxembourg, revendiqu? par les comtes de Metz mais ils ne purent obtenir le comt?, et Louis de Looz ne put que r?cup?rer la banni?re des comtes de Luxembourg pour cr?er son ?cu.

    La num?ration des comtes de Looz n'est pas toujours tr?s claire. Ainsi des ouvrages anciens font ?tat pour cet anc?tre du nom d'Arnault V.

    Mais des sources plus r?centes retiennent Arnoul/Arnault II, et nous disent sur lui:

    ARNOUL II, fils d?Arnoul Ier, comte de Looz, commen?a son r?gne en 1101, selon Mantelius; en 1099,. Il est certain qu?Arnoul avait d?j? succ?d? ? son fr?re en 1103, puisqu?il figure comme t?moin dans une charte de cette ann?e, par laquelle Henri IV, roi des Romains, r?gle les droits ? percevoir ? Olne, par les avou?s du chapitre de Saint-Adalbert ? Aix-la-Chapelle.

    Guerrier intr?pide, Arnoul mit bravement ses talents militaires au service de l??glise de Li?ge, dont il ?tait un des principaux vassaux.

    II remplit un r?le ?nergique et franc dans une guerre entreprise, dix ans plus tard, contre Gislebert, comte de Duras. Celui-ci, appliquant un syst?me beaucoup trop suivi ? cette ?poque, avait abus? de son titre de sous-avou? de Saint-Trond, pour exercer sur le territoire de cette ville une foule d?exactions et de rapines; les choses en ?taient venues au point que, malgr? les protestations de l??v?que de Metz, co-propri?taire de la seigneurie, l?abb?     Arnoul n??tait pas moins remarquable par sa pi?t? ?clair?e que par sa valeur et ses talents militaires. Il fut l?ami et le protecteur des c?l?bres abb?s de Saint-Trond Thierri et Rodulphe. En 1128 ou 1131, il fonda l?abbaye d?Averbode, qui joua plus tard un r?le si important dans l?histoire du Brabant. Il en fit don ? l?ordre des pr?montr?s, que saint Norbert venait de cr?er pour r?g?n?rer les m?urs du peuple, et obtint, en 1139, des lettres d?Innocent II, par lesquelles ce pape pla?a le nouveau monast?re sous la protection imm?diate de l??glise romaine.

    Arnoul jouissait d?une grande consid?ration parmi ses contemporains.Il ?tait accueilli avec une grande distinction ? la cour des empereurs d?Allemagne, et son nom para?t fr?quemment parmi ceux des t?moins mentionnes dans les chartes octroy?es par Henri IV, Henri V, Lothaire II et Conrad III.

    En 1145, Arnoul c?da son comt? ? Louis, son fils a?n?. Il mourut probablement en 1146 et laissa plusieurs enfants de son mariage avec Alix de Bavi?re, ? qui Mantelius donne ?, tort le nom d?Agn?s (Bertholet, Histoire du Luxembourg, t. IV, pr?f., p.xxvi). La victoire de Wilderen avait entour? son nom d?un ?clat extraordinaire. Les habitants du pays de Looz conserv?rent longtemps le souvenir de ce brillant fait d?armes, et, comme toujours, l?imagination populaire lui donna des proportions d?passant de beaucoup la r?alit?.
