    Notes:

William, king of Scots, is also known as William the Lion. Born in 1143, he was the second of three sons of Henry, earl of Northumberland (d.1152) and Ada de Warenne (d.1178). He succeeded to the Scottish throne after the death of his eldest brother, Malcolm IV, on 9 December 1165, and was inaugurated on 24 December 1165. The youngest brother was David, earl of Huntingdon (d. 1219) and he also had a sister, Margaret. He had three illegitimate daughters, Isabella, Ada and Margaret (who married Eustace de Vescy (d.1216)), and an illegitimate son, Robert of London (d.c.1226). On 5 September 1186, William married Ermengarde (d.1233), daughter of Richard, vicomte de Beaumont, son of an illegitimate daughter of Henry I of England. The marriage produced only one son, Alexander, who was born on 24 August 1198, but two daughters, Margaret and Isabella. William died on 4 December 1214 and was buried on 10 December at Arbroath Abbey. http://www.oxforddnb.com/view/article/29452
